Xilinx and QuickLogic announced separate workforce reductions in 2008, not a current round of layoffs. Xilinx said on June 4 that a functional reorganization would eliminate about 250 positions, roughly 7% of its global workforce. QuickLogic later reported that an April outsourcing decision and a June 3 realignment together reduced its worldwide headcount by about 30%.
What Xilinx announced in June 2008
In a June 4, 2008 release, Xilinx said a functional reorganization would eliminate approximately 250 positions, or about 7% of its global workforce. The company expected the workforce reduction to be completed by the end of the next fiscal quarter. Xilinx described the restructuring as intended “to better serve its customers and improve its operating performance.” Xilinx’s June 4, 2008 announcement
Xilinx estimated restructuring charges of approximately $18 million to $22 million, including severance and facility-related costs. The release did not provide a location-by-location or role-by-role breakdown, or individual severance terms. Xilinx’s June 4, 2008 announcement
What QuickLogic reported about its 2008 reductions
QuickLogic’s 2008 SEC-filed quarterly report describes two actions: an outsourcing decision beginning in April that reduced headcount by approximately 13%, followed by a CSSP-focused operational realignment on June 3 that reduced headcount by a further 17%. The filing reports an approximately 30% combined reduction in worldwide headcount. It does not give a comparable absolute number of positions in the cited passage. QuickLogic’s 2008 quarterly report

QuickLogic said the realignment was intended to lower fixed costs and break-even revenue, help profitability scale more quickly as revenue grew, and leave more room for discretionary spending to support new product revenue. The filing does not identify every affected role or location, or establish individual severance terms. QuickLogic’s 2008 quarterly report
