Meta reportedly agreed to spend more than $10 billion on Google Cloud services over six years, giving Google a major outside customer amid rising demand for computing capacity. Reuters and The Information reported the terms on Aug. 21, 2025, but neither published the contract, and Reuters said Google and Meta had not immediately responded to requests for comment. The value and duration should therefore be treated as reported terms, not publicly confirmed contract details.

What Meta reportedly agreed to buy

The reports describe a Google Cloud agreement covering servers, storage, networking and other cloud services. They do not provide a complete service schedule, identify particular hardware, or specify the workloads Meta will run.

Reuters placed the deal in the context of Meta seeking computing capacity for AI tools. That context does not establish that all, or any particular share, of the contract is dedicated to AI. The reporting does not identify specific Google chips, Nvidia GPUs, models or hardware allocations.

What the reported $10 billion-plus figure means

Reuters, citing a person familiar with the matter, and The Information both reported a six-year term worth more than $10 billion. Their reports corroborate the headline terms, but the sources do not provide a public contract, a detailed payment schedule or unit pricing.

The total is not evidence of a fixed annual payment, a guaranteed minimum in any given year, or the revenue Google will recognize in a particular period. Nor do the reports establish the contract’s margins or profitability.

Why it is a win for Google Cloud

A large, multi-year agreement with an outside customer is a commercial win for Google Cloud: it represents reported demand for its infrastructure and services from one of the world’s largest technology companies. The deal also fits a broader industry backdrop in which companies are seeking computing capacity, including for AI development.

In remarks about its second quarter of 2026, Google CEO Sundar Pichai described broad Google Cloud demand across products, customers, geographies and industries, along with customer expansion and marketplace transaction growth. Those remarks provide context about the cloud business; they do not confirm the Meta contract or show how much it contributed to Google’s results.

What remains unconfirmed

  • Public confirmation: The cited accounts do not include a named company confirmation of the reported value or term. Reuters said the companies had not immediately responded to its requests for comment.
  • Detailed terms: The payment schedule, service-level commitments, pricing by service and any termination or renewal provisions are not stated in the reports.
  • Specific capacity and use: The reports do not say which chips or systems Meta will use, how much capacity it will receive, or what portion of the agreement supports AI workloads.
  • Financial impact: The available reporting does not quantify revenue recognition, profit, or the deal’s effect on Google Cloud’s reported financial results.

How to read the headline

“Big win” is a characterization of the reported size and strategic value of the customer agreement, not a disclosed measure of earnings or a guarantee of financial performance. The defensible takeaway is narrower: two outlets reported that Meta agreed to a six-year Google Cloud deal worth more than $10 billion, covering several broad cloud-service categories. The public reporting leaves the contract’s detailed economics and exact workloads undisclosed.
