At its March 28, 2024 launch in China, Xiaomi priced the SU7 Standard at 215,900 yuan. Founder and CEO Lei Jun said that was 30,000 yuan less than the Tesla Model 3. The comparison describes the entry SU7’s launch price in China—not current pricing or a comparison across every trim and market.
What Xiaomi announced at launch
Xiaomi’s three launch prices were:

The Associated Press reported the overall launch range as 215,900 to 299,900 yuan and said the base model undercut the Model 3 in China. CarNewsChina reported that the Pro’s 245,900-yuan launch price matched the Model 3 price cited in its account. That context matters: Lei Jun’s 30,000-yuan statement was about the entry SU7, not every SU7 trim.
What the 30,000-yuan comparison does—and doesn’t—mean
Reuters reported Lei Jun’s launch-stage statement: “It’s 30,000 (yuan) cheaper than the Model 3.” Read it as a contemporaneous China-market comparison between the SU7 Standard and the Model 3 price being discussed at that launch. It is not evidence that a Xiaomi is cheaper than a Tesla in other countries, or that today’s prices remain the same.
Prices can change, and a useful purchase comparison also depends on the exact trim, equipment, ownership costs, and local availability. The launch-price reporting alone does not establish which car offers better value overall.

Price is only one part of the SU7 story
Xiaomi’s March 2024 FY2023 results presentation described the SU7 as its first EV and the series as a full-size, high-performance sedan. For the SU7 Max, Xiaomi listed a 0–100 km/h time of 2.78 seconds, 800 km of range, a top speed of 265 km/h, 673 PS, 838 N·m of torque, and a 33.3 m 100–0 km/h braking distance. Those are Xiaomi-published specifications, not results from an independent head-to-head test; the presentation does not make them a direct comparison with the Model 3.
The Associated Press also reported Xiaomi’s claim of 50,000 orders in the first 27 minutes after launch. That is a company-reported figure, not an independently audited measure of completed sales.

That was launch-era positioning, not proof by itself of the ecosystem’s quality or of current capabilities.
The SU7 price figures above are a historical record of the March 2024 announcement. Current SU7 and Model 3 prices, trims, and availability are not established by those launch reports, so buyers should check dated local listings before treating the comparison as a present-day budget estimate.
