The lower-cost tiers and an ad-supported option mentioned in March were possibilities reported at the time, not announced features.
What Xbox and Netflix had discussed
A March 24, 2026 report said Xbox CEO Asha Sharma wanted Game Pass and future consoles to reach more customers. Lower-priced subscription tiers and a possible ad-supported option were described as considerations, not a formal product roadmap. Stuff’s report and GameSpot’s contemporaneous coverage attributed the possibilities to reporting by The Information; Microsoft had not confirmed them.
The Netflix idea was exploratory, too. Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters said he and Sharma had “kicked around ideas” for a subscription bundle. He also said Microsoft was still working out how a Game Pass bundle could work for the company. That indicates a discussion, not an agreement, launch date, price, or set of bundle terms.
What changed: Xbox cut two U.S. monthly prices
On April 21, 2026, Xbox announced price reductions for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass in the United States. Xbox said prices may vary by region, so these figures should not be assumed to apply elsewhere. Xbox Wire’s announcement gives the new prices and the accompanying Call of Duty change.

| Plan | U.S. monthly price before April 21, 2026 | U.S. monthly price announced April 21, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Game Pass Ultimate | $29.99 | $22.99 |
| PC Game Pass | $16.49 | $13.99 |
Reuters also reported the price reductions and described the preceding Ultimate increase to $29.99 as a 50% rise. Reuters via Investing.com and Bloomberg independently covered the reductions and the Call of Duty timing change.
The trade-off: new Call of Duty games arrive later
The lower prices came with a change for future Call of Duty releases. New titles will no longer join Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch; Xbox said they would be added during the following holiday season, about a year later. Call of Duty games already in the library will remain available.

Xbox said Ultimate subscribers would continue to get hundreds of games across console and PC, in-game benefits, online console multiplayer, unlimited Xbox Cloud Gaming, and major day-one releases. Those benefits describe the Ultimate announcement; they should not be assumed to apply to every Game Pass plan.
Is the Netflix bundle available?
No confirmed bundle, price, or launch was reported in the sources reviewed. In a May 28, 2026 GameSpot report, Peters’ comments were still presented as exploratory, with no confirmed deal. Sharma said in a staff memo, “Since our price reduction we have seen acquisitions grow and retention improve, which is a good first step.” That is her stated assessment of the price change, not evidence that a Netflix bundle was announced. GameSpot’s May report is the latest status in the available coverage; it does not establish whether anything changed after May.

What this means for subscribers weighing the price change
The April announcement is a real price reduction for the two named U.S. plans, paired with later access to future Call of Duty games. The cheaper tiers and ad-supported option remain reported possibilities rather than confirmed offerings, and Netflix bundling remains unconfirmed in the latest cited report. Anyone deciding whether the new monthly cost suits them should check the current price and plan benefits for their region before subscribing, since Xbox says prices may vary by region.
