Reported new U.S. recommended prices are $499.99 for Xbox Series S 512GB, $599.99 for Series S 1TB, $749.99 for Series X Digital 1TB, and $799.99 for Series X 1TB with a disc drive. Retailer prices, promotions, and availability may differ from those recommended prices.
New U.S. Xbox prices by model
Microsoft described the August 1 increase as worldwide. The figures below are the reported U.S. recommended prices after the change; Game Informer derived the model-by-model prices from the announced increases and prior pricing, and TechCrunch reported the same amounts rounded to whole dollars.
| Model | Storage and disc drive | Prior Microsoft-published U.S. price (October 3, 2025) |
Reported price after August 1, 2026 | Reported increase |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series S | 512GB; no disc drive | $399.99 | $499.99 | $100 |
| Xbox Series S | 1TB; no disc drive | $449.99 | $599.99 | $150 |
| Xbox Series X Digital | 1TB; no disc drive | $599.99 | $749.99 | $150 |
| Xbox Series X | 1TB; disc drive | $649.99 | $799.99 | $150 |
| Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition | 2TB; disc-drive configuration not stated in the cited price schedule | $799.99 | Discontinued | Not applicable |
Microsoft’s October 3, 2025 U.S. schedule provides the earlier prices. The 2TB Galaxy Black price is historical: Microsoft announced that the model would be discontinued, so that figure should not be treated as a current offer. How the new prices compare with Microsoft’s 2025 schedule
Against the Microsoft-published U.S. prices dated October 3, 2025, the reported changes are $100 for 512GB configurations and $150 for 1TB configurations. That comparison describes the listed prices at those two points; it does not establish what a buyer paid at a particular retailer or during a sale.

Microsoft had already raised U.S. console prices in October 2025, according to its statement reproduced by Game Informer. The August 2026 increase is therefore another change after that published schedule, rather than a return to the earlier prices.
Why Microsoft says prices are going up
Microsoft attributed the latest increase to component costs. In the Xbox Wire statement quoted by Game Informer, the company said console storage and memory prices had risen more than 2.5 times and forecast that they could double again by fall 2027. Those figures are Microsoft’s explanation and forecast, not independently verified measurements of Xbox component costs.

Microsoft also said the broader consumer-electronics industry was facing a component shortage and that consoles were particularly affected. The company’s stated rationale was that consoles are typically sold below their manufacturing cost, unlike some other consumer devices. These are Microsoft’s claims about the economics behind the increase, not a separate accounting analysis.

- Confirm the exact model and storage capacity: Series S and Series X configurations differ in storage and whether they include a disc drive.
- Check the retailer’s current checkout price, stock, and any promotion. The announced recommended prices do not guarantee a particular shelf or transaction price.
- Do not assume the discontinued 2TB Galaxy Black model is regularly available at its October 2025 listed price.
Microsoft’s console catalog identifies its console configurations, while its prior U.S. price schedule is in the October 3, 2025 Xbox pricing announcement. The current transaction price still needs to be checked with the seller.
