About 16,200 bottles of Woolite Delicates detergent—not more than 160,000—were recalled in the United States because they may contain bacteria. If your bottle has one of the affected lot codes, stop using it and contact Reckitt for a full refund.
Why the recall count differs from the headline
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on March 20, 2025, and reported about 16,200 affected bottles. A March 24 Yahoo Lifestyle article attributed to Southern Living used “more than 160,000” in its headline, but its body also reported 16,200. How to identify an affected bottle
The recall applies only to 50-fluid-ounce bottles of Woolite Delicates detergent, SKU 62338-72724, with one of these lot codes: S24364, S24365 or S24366. The lot code is printed at the top of the back of the bottle. CPSC describes the recalled bottles as white, with a light-pink label and cap.

Do not assume every bottle of Woolite Delicates—or other Woolite products—is included. The recalled bottles were sold exclusively on Amazon.com in January 2025 for $14 to $17, according to the CPSC notice.

What the bacteria risk means
The recalled detergent may contain Pseudomonas species bacteria, including Pseudomonas oleovorans, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water. According to the CPSC, people with weakened immune systems or external medical devices face a risk of serious infection after exposure, potentially requiring medical treatment. Bacteria can enter through the eyes or a break in the skin. The agency says, “People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.”
What to do if you have a recalled bottle
- Stop using it immediately. Check the lot code before using any 50-fluid-ounce bottle of Woolite Delicates.
- Prepare a refund request. Write your name and “Recalled” in permanent marker on the back of the bottle.
- Photograph the bottle. Make sure the photo clearly shows the product’s UPC and lot code.
- Email the photo to Reckitt. Send it to [email protected] to request a full refund.
- Dispose of it after receiving the refund. Close the bottle tightly and put it in household trash. Do not empty the detergent or attempt to recycle the bottle.
What was reported when the recall was announced
The CPSC notice reported no incidents or injuries as of March 20, 2025. That is the status stated when the notice was published, not a guarantee about whether later reports occurred.
