Those accounts remain allegations in the sources reviewed here—not findings that anyone was legally scammed. The report also covered a separate 2014 fraud conviction, which does not establish the later claims.
What the August 2021 report alleged
PerthNow recounted separate disputes involving trademark assistance and an awards sponsorship, design work, and a proposed digital platform. The claims below are attributed to the people who spoke to the newspaper; they are not court findings.
Trademark assistance and an awards sponsorship
Simon Mohiuddin, owner of Simon Says Burger, told PerthNow he paid thousands of dollars for help trademarking his signature word, “goosty.” The report said the trademark was instead filed for Matjar Pty Ltd. Mohiuddin also said he paid $1,800 to sponsor an award in the inaugural Halal Food Australia Awards, which he said never took place. These details were reported by PerthNow.
Mohiuddin characterized Hunter as “choosing his victims carefully.” That is Mohiuddin’s opinion as quoted in the report, not an established finding about the disputes.

Design work and unpaid invoices
A graphic designer identified only as Ali* told PerthNow he was hired to plan a branding campaign and later used debt collectors after invoices were not fully paid. The report also recounted Ali’s claims about representations Hunter had made concerning potential government, corporate, tourism, festival, and retail relationships. The reviewed account does not confirm that those relationships existed.
The HalalMe platform and logo
Nazrul Islam told PerthNow he paid thousands of dollars for a HalalMe platform and delivery system that was not completed apart from a logo. The report said Islam was invoiced more than $1,000 for a website and platform, and that he said he paid $300 for the logo. Islam alleged the logo had been sourced from Fiverr for $10; the newspaper’s account does not independently verify that price or the alleged sourcing.
Other accounts
PerthNow said two other Muslim business owners and leaders told the paper they had loaned Hunter money or had not been paid for services. The reviewed passage did not name them or provide further details.
The earlier conviction is a separate matter
PerthNow reported that Hunter was convicted by a jury in 2014 and jailed for fraud connected to earlier work selling point-of-sale equipment to supermarkets. The reviewed material does not include the underlying judgment. That reported conviction concerns an earlier matter; it should not be treated as proof of the later business-dispute allegations.

What is known about a response or official outcome
PerthNow said it sought comment from Hunter and he did not respond. The report also said Western Australia’s Consumer Protection wanted to hear from consumers who felt misled and provided complaint channels. That invitation was not a regulator’s determination that the claims were true.
The sources reviewed do not establish a later court or official outcome concerning these specific allegations. A prosecution-database search result could not be linked to Hunter or this story, so it does not establish an outcome either. The status of the reported disputes is therefore unresolved in the available material.

How to read the report
- Keep the claims distinct. The report describes different people, transactions, and alleged losses; it does not establish one adjudicated pattern.
- Keep the date in view. Published on 26 August 2021, the article is not evidence of current business activity or legal status.
- Do not infer liability from silence. The reported lack of a response to PerthNow does not prove the allegations.
- Do not use the 2014 matter as proof of later claims. It was reported as a separate conviction involving earlier work.
