Qualcomm’s FY2026 second-quarter filing says Arm withdrew that notice on January 8, 2025, and told Qualcomm it had no current plan to terminate Qualcomm’s Architecture License Agreement (ALA). Arm reserved its rights while litigation continued. The notice is not a current countdown.
What the 60-day notice said—and what changed
On October 22, 2024, Arm notified Qualcomm that it alleged breaches of their ALA and asserted a right to terminate the agreement if the breaches were not cured within 60 days. Arm’s allegations concerned Qualcomm products with CPUs that Arm said used designs, technology, and code developed by Nuvia employees before Qualcomm acquired Nuvia. Arm also objected to Qualcomm seeking Arm support and verification for additional products using that work, and to Qualcomm suing Arm. Qualcomm disputed the allegations.
According to Qualcomm’s FY2026 second-quarter filing, Arm withdrew the notice on January 8, 2025, said it had no current plan to terminate Qualcomm’s ALA, and reserved its rights pending litigation. That account comes from Qualcomm; it should not be read as a court ruling that resolved every contractual dispute between the companies.
The phrase “chip design licence” can also blur two agreements at issue. The central one in the 60-day notice was Qualcomm’s architecture licence with Arm. The dispute also involved a separate Nuvia licence, which became important after Qualcomm acquired the company.

Two lawsuits, two different questions
The companies’ litigation includes two separate proceedings. Keeping them distinct matters: a jury finding in one case is not a decision on the claims in the other.
| Proceeding | What the parties argued | Posture reported by the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Arm v. Qualcomm and Nuvia | Arm alleged that Qualcomm and Nuvia did not comply with termination obligations under Nuvia’s Arm architecture licence. Arm sought specific performance, including stopping use of and destroying technology developed under the Nuvia agreement. Qualcomm denied breach and argued its own architecture and technology agreements covered the relevant cores and systems-on-chips. | A December 2024 jury found Qualcomm had not breached the Nuvia ALA and that Qualcomm CPUs including designs acquired in the Nuvia transaction were licensed under Qualcomm’s ALA. The jury did not decide whether Nuvia had breached its own agreement. The district court entered judgment in September 2025; Arm appealed, and its June 2026 filing said the appeal remained pending. |
| Qualcomm v. Arm | Qualcomm separately alleged that Arm failed to provide contractual deliverables, improperly sought termination and publicized its notice, and failed to make technology-licence offers on commercially reasonable terms. Qualcomm added a good-faith negotiation claim in March 2026. These are Qualcomm’s claims, not established findings. | Qualcomm’s July 2026 filing said the court denied Arm’s motion to strike the amended complaint on July 14 and scheduled trial to begin October 5, 2026. Arm’s June 2026 filing more generally expected the case in the fourth calendar quarter of 2026. |
What the jury and district court decided
The trial in Arm’s case against Qualcomm and Nuvia began on December 16, 2024. On December 20, the jury found that Qualcomm had not breached the Nuvia ALA and that Qualcomm CPUs incorporating designs acquired in the Nuvia transaction were licensed under Qualcomm’s ALA. It could not reach a decision on whether Nuvia had breached its own ALA.

On September 30, 2025, the district court entered final judgment upholding the jury findings, granted judgment to Nuvia, and dismissed Arm’s remaining claims. Qualcomm’s General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Ann Chaplin, called the result a “full victory” and a “full and final judgment in Qualcomm’s favor” in Qualcomm’s September 30, 2025 press release. Those phrases are Qualcomm’s characterization. Arm filed an appeal to the Third Circuit on October 1, 2025, and its June 2026 filing said the appeal was pending. The district-court judgment therefore should not be presented as an unappealed resolution of all litigation.
What the dispute means for Snapdragon X Elite laptop buyers
Oryon CPU cores are at the heart of Snapdragon X Elite processors used in Copilot+ PCs, according to PCWorld’s October 2024 report on the notice. That makes Snapdragon X Elite laptops relevant examples of hardware connected to the dispute. It does not establish that owners are about to lose support, that laptops will be pulled from sale, or that buyers need to purchase now.

The cited filings and reporting do not establish a current consumer-facing disruption. They also do not guarantee that every future legal or commercial development will have no effect on products. For an individual buyer, this dispute alone is not evidence that an existing laptop has lost its warranty, software updates, or ordinary usability; those matters depend on the seller’s, manufacturer’s, and software providers’ terms and actions.
