In a March 2025 interview, WWT CEO Jim Kavanaugh also described the company’s work with NVIDIA on AI infrastructure and customer applications. These are the companies’ stated rationale and activities—not independent evidence that the acquisition’s expected benefits have been achieved.
Why did WWT buy Softchoice?
World Wide Technology (WWT) completed its acquisition of Softchoice on March 13, 2025, and valued the deal at approximately US$1.3 billion in its announcement. WWT said the acquisition would expand its software, cloud, cybersecurity and AI capabilities, including through Softchoice’s Microsoft partnership and work with Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Copilot for Security. WWT’s completion announcement describes the company’s rationale; it does not establish that anticipated synergies have since been realized.

In a March 21, 2025 CRN interview, Kavanaugh said WWT had formed an acquisition team about a year and a half earlier to look for businesses that complemented its technology and geographic capabilities. Softchoice’s customer base in the U.S. and Canada appealed because WWT had not developed the same sales and service experience in the SMB, midmarket and commercial segments.
“We found the build-out of Softchoice in the SMB space and the midmarket and commercial space, both in Canada and in the US, to be very attractive, because that’s a big market that we haven’t necessarily gone after, and we don’t necessarily have the, I would say, muscle memory.”

Jim Kavanaugh, WWT co-founder and CEO, in the March 2025 CRN interview
Kavanaugh also pointed to Softchoice’s cloud and cybersecurity focus and its Microsoft AI work as complementary to WWT. Softchoice CEO Andrew Caprara described the combination as joining a Microsoft and software solutions provider with an infrastructure, AI and cybersecurity provider. He said customers were seeking end-to-end help amid significant change; that was his view, not an independently established finding about the market.
How could the deal change WWT’s reach in the SMB market?
The strategic change WWT described is an expanded route to SMB and midmarket customers in the United States and Canada, rather than a claim that WWT has already captured a particular share of those markets. Softchoice brings an established presence with those customer segments, as well as software, cloud, cybersecurity and Microsoft capabilities that WWT said complement its own.
For a business evaluating the combined company, the practical question is whether a proposed engagement joins the needed pieces—such as Microsoft software, cloud migration, cybersecurity and infrastructure—in a way that fits its environment. The acquisition announcement and interview describe capabilities and intent; they do not provide customer-by-customer results or a neutral assessment of how well the integration is working.

What does WWT do with NVIDIA?
Kavanaugh described a roughly ten-year WWT–NVIDIA relationship spanning AI infrastructure and customer applications. He said WWT had been recognized as an NVIDIA Partner of the Year for “eight or nine” consecutive years; that figure is his statement in the 2025 interview. He also said WWT was using NVIDIA technology alongside other architectural components to design, engineer and build purpose-built AI data centers.
Beyond infrastructure, Kavanaugh cited work in data science, natural-language processing and machine learning, as well as collaboration with customers on inference and application outcomes. The interview gives examples, but does not provide independent performance measures or a vendor-to-vendor comparison.

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
WWT’s CEO Outlook 2026 later called its NVIDIA relationship a “multibillion-dollar partnership with substantial runway ahead.” The same company-authored outlook named expanded collaborations with Cisco, Microsoft, Google, Dell, HPE, VMware and AWS. Those statements update WWT’s description of its strategy; they do not independently quantify contract value, revenue or customer impact.

An AI data center is computing infrastructure configured to support AI workloads. Those workloads can require specialized processing, data systems, networking, storage, software and operational expertise. In the context of Kavanaugh’s remarks, “purpose-built” refers to designing and integrating infrastructure for AI rather than treating a data center as a collection of interchangeable servers.
Infrastructure is only one part of an AI project. A useful implementation also needs a defined application, appropriate data, a plan for how the model will be used, and a way to assess the result. The interview describes WWT’s infrastructure and application work, but does not specify architectures, deployment costs, model choices or measured returns for the examples.
What AI use cases is WWT building?
Kavanaugh named an internally designed AI-generated request-for-proposal assistant that WWT deployed for customers, along with computer vision and digital twins. These are examples he gave in the interview, not independently assessed case studies. The source does not state customer names, deployment counts, accuracy, savings or other results.
- RFP assistant: An AI tool intended to help with requests for proposals. The interview identifies it as an internal design deployed for customers but does not detail its workflow or outcomes.
- Computer vision: AI systems that analyze images or video. Kavanaugh named this as an area of work without specifying a particular customer application.
- Digital twins: Digital representations of real-world systems or assets. Kavanaugh cited them as an application area but did not describe a specific deployment or result.
What should a business assess before choosing an AI implementation partner?
WWT’s statements describe a broad combination of infrastructure, software, cloud, cybersecurity and AI services. They are not a neutral comparison with other integrators. A business considering any provider can use these questions to test whether a proposed project is concrete and appropriately supported:
Quick Recap
- Infrastructure: Can the provider explain how its design fits the workload, data, security requirements and existing environment?
- Application: Is there a defined use case and a clear connection between infrastructure choices and the intended business outcome?
- Customer fit: Does the provider have relevant experience serving organizations of your size and in your geography?
- Coverage: Can it address the required cloud, cybersecurity, software and infrastructure components, or explain who will handle the gaps?
- Evidence: Are claimed results supported by details about deployments and measurement, rather than partnership descriptions or forward-looking statements alone?
