In September 2025, Shein removed a men’s floral shirt listing after reports said its model image resembled Luigi Mangione. Shein said a third-party vendor supplied the image and that the company removed it after discovering it. Reporting did not establish whether the image was AI-generated, manually edited, or a photograph of someone who resembles Mangione.
What appeared on Shein’s listing?
Reports on September 3–4, 2025, described a men’s short-sleeve floral shirt listed on Shein with a model image resembling Mangione. Mediaweek reproduced the archived description, which included “Family Matching Mommy And Me (3 Pieces Are Sold Separately).” That phrase was part of the product wording; it is not evidence that the image showed a mother and child.
Contemporaneous coverage associated the listing with Manfinity. Shein’s reported statement did not name the vendor, however, so Manfinity should be understood as the association made by coverage, not as a vendor identity confirmed by Shein.
Why did Shein use Mangione’s face?
The available reporting does not establish that the image actually depicted Mangione or explain how it was made. Shein attributed the image to a third-party vendor. The resemblance prompted the story, but reporting left open whether the image was AI-generated, manually altered, or showed another person.

Gizmodo relayed a facial-recognition similarity figure attributed to BBC reporting, but that is not proof of identity or of how an image was produced. It is more accurate to describe the image as resembling Mangione than to say Shein used a confirmed image of him.
What did Shein say?
A Shein representative told Mediaweek and 404 Media: “The image in question was provided by a third-party vendor and was removed immediately upon discovery. We have stringent standards for all listings on our platform. We are conducting a thorough investigation, strengthening our monitoring processes, and will take appropriate action against the vendor in line with our policies.”

This is Shein’s account of the image’s source and its response. The cited statement does not identify the vendor by name or explain the image’s production method.
Was the listing removed, and is the shirt still available?
Coverage reported the listing removed by September 4, 2025. The cited reports do not establish whether the shirt later returned, whether similar listings appeared, or what became of the investigation. A separate Shein family-matching product page is not evidence that the removed shirt remains available or that it is the same item.
What the incident does—and does not—show
The reports establish a narrow sequence: a listing for a men’s floral shirt carried an image that resembled Mangione; Shein said a third-party vendor provided it; and the company said it removed the listing after discovery. They do not establish the vendor’s confirmed identity, the image’s origin, or the outcome of Shein’s stated investigation.
