Sheffield United’s accounts do not reveal individual player salaries, and third-party estimates disagree about who earns the most. For 2026/27, Salary Sport estimates Kalvin Phillips at £165,000 a week, while Capology lists Matt Doherty at £55,000 a week. Neither figure is a confirmed contract amount. Those estimates alone cannot show whether Chris Wilder is getting value: that requires comparable evidence about a player’s cost, availability and contribution.
Who is Sheffield United’s highest-paid player?
There is no publicly confirmed answer in the club accounts. The competing figures below are estimates from salary databases, not disclosed contract terms. Their methods are not established as directly comparable, so the difference cannot be reconciled from the available figures.
| Source and season | Player named | Reported estimate | What is established |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salary Sport, 2026/27 | Kalvin Phillips | £165,000 per week | Salary Sport’s model; not an audited payroll disclosure. Its page estimates total weekly wages of £594,874 across 70 players. |
| Capology, 2026/27 listing | Matt Doherty | £55,000 per week | A model estimate that conflicts with Salary Sport’s named top earner and amount. |
| SalaryLeaks, 2025/26 | Kalvin Phillips | £6.8 million annually | A separate estimate for a different season; it does not settle the 2026/27 disagreement. |
These entries do not establish whether the estimates include bonuses, loan contributions or other compensation in the same way. Nor do they show whether another club contributes to any player’s pay. Treat the figures as source-specific estimates, not interchangeable measures of take-home pay or total contract cost.
What Sheffield United’s accounts actually disclose
The latest accounts covered here are for the year ended 30 June 2025, before the 2025/26 season. They report club-wide financial totals, not individual salaries or a first-team-only wage bill. The Companies House filing history lists the 2024/25 full accounts as filed on 29 March 2026.

| Reported item | Amount | Scope and period |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | £79,331,157 | The Sheffield United Football Club Limited, year ended 30 June 2025. |
| Total staff costs | £45,703,510 | Club-wide staff costs, including players, coaching, academy and other employees; not just first-team wages. |
| Wages and salaries | £40,181,051 | Club-wide figure for the same reporting period, not an individual-player disclosure. |
| Pre-tax profit | £2,593,344 | The company’s reported result for the year ended 30 June 2025. |
These figures provide financial context, but they cannot verify a current player’s weekly pay or be treated as the wage bill for a later season. The distinction matters: a club-wide staff-cost total answers a different question from what a specific first-team player earns.
What changed when COH Sports took control?
The 2025 accounts record that COH Sports Bidco Limited acquired 100% of Blades Leisure Limited, the parent of The Sheffield United Football Club Limited, on 23 December 2024. They identify COH Sports United LLC as the group’s ultimate parent and say it was jointly controlled by trusts of Stephen H. Rosen and Helmy E. Eltoukhy. This describes the ownership position recorded in those accounts; it does not independently establish whether ownership changed later.

The change of control is relevant context, but it does not make individual salary estimates official. The accounts still provide no player-by-player pay disclosure.
How to judge whether Wilder is getting value
A wage ranking is not a value-for-money verdict. To assess a player’s cost against his contribution, the salary estimate and performance evidence need to refer to the same season and competition, and the player’s role should be taken into account.

- Cost: Identify the source, season and basis of the estimate, and distinguish reported pay from any unreported bonuses or loan contributions.
- Availability: Compare the player’s availability and minutes with the time he could reasonably have played.
- Role-specific contribution: Assess contributions relevant to his position and responsibilities rather than relying on a single general statistic.
- Team impact: Consider results while he plays, while accounting for the opposition and the rest of the lineup.
- Alternatives and replacement cost: Ask what a comparable recruitment option might cost and what it would take to replace the player’s contribution.
The available salary estimates do not supply a reliable, matched player-performance comparison for the alleged highest earner. So they cannot support a definitive conclusion about whether Wilder is getting value from Phillips or Doherty.

If you use Phillips as the example, keep SalaryLeaks’ 2025/26 annual estimate separate from Salary Sport’s 2026/27 weekly estimate; they refer to different seasons and sources. If you use Doherty, describe the £55,000 weekly figure as Capology’s model estimate, not a confirmed salary. In either case, do not turn an estimate into a statement of fact or infer value from the reported rank alone.
