Roblox sued YouTuber Ruben Sim, whose legal name is Benjamin Robert Simon, over alleged harassment, ban evasion and threat-related conduct. The case ended in a stipulated court order—not a trial verdict—with a $150,000 monetary judgment and permanent restrictions on specified conduct and access to Roblox.
Why did Roblox sue Ruben Sim?
Roblox Corporation filed its complaint against Simon on November 23, 2021, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The complaint alleged that he repeatedly evaded Roblox bans, harassed users and employees, and published posts concerning a terrorist threat at the 2021 Roblox Developers Conference. Roblox alleged that the posts contributed to a temporary lockdown and security response. Those descriptions are claims Roblox made in its complaint, not findings reached after a trial. The complaint asserted claims under the federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, California’s computer data access law, breach of contract, fraud and tortious interference. The allegations and causes of action describe Roblox’s case; they do not, by themselves, establish that Simon committed the alleged conduct.

Did Ruben Sim have to pay Roblox $1.6 million?
No. The stipulated monetary judgment was $150,000. The $1.6 million figure was the amount Roblox initially sought, not the final judgment, according to Ars Technica’s January 22, 2022 report.

The order also restricts Simon’s access to the Roblox Platform, while allowing access to public portions of the website that do not require an account. Separately, it prohibits him from knowingly approaching within 100 feet of a Roblox office, facility or residence. No trial verdict established every allegation. The court entered the parties’ stipulated resolution, so it is accurate to describe the outcome as a stipulated judgment and order—not a jury verdict or a trial finding that every disputed event happened as Roblox pleaded. Ars Technica reported that the resolution did not establish legal precedent. The order also states that Simon waived the right to appeal or otherwise contest it, and that each side would bear its own costs and attorney fees. Ars Technica, January 22, 2022; stipulated order.
