Futurism reported that earnings and revenue had each grown by more than 100%, yet investors had hoped for more. The same report said the stock fell more than 6% on Thursday, August 29, 2024—a historical figure that has not been independently checked against exchange data here.
What happened after Nvidia’s August 2024 earnings?
Nvidia reported its results on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Futurism’s August 29 coverage said the company’s earnings and revenue were up more than 100%, but its shares fell more than 6% the following day. The article described investors as expecting an even stronger showing. Read Futurism’s August 29, 2024 report.
That distinction matters: the company’s reported growth and the stock’s price reaction answer different questions. Revenue growth describes what Nvidia achieved over a reporting period. The share-price move reflects how investors reassessed the business against what they had already expected, as well as other concerns at the time.
Why can a stock fall when revenue is growing?
A stock can decline after good results if the results do not exceed what investors had priced in. Nvidia had already had a major run-up: Futurism reported that its shares had risen more than 150% that year and that the company’s market value was nearly $2 trillion at the time. Those are figures from 2024, not current share-price or valuation data.

After a steep rise, investors may demand evidence that growth will continue at a pace that justifies the stock’s high expectations. In that setting, growth above 100% can still disappoint if investors anticipated more. That is the expectations explanation offered in the contemporary coverage; it does not establish that one factor alone caused the decline.
What concerns accompanied the results?
Questions about AI spending
Investors were debating whether spending on AI infrastructure would continue to support demand for Nvidia’s products. Michael Matousek, head trader at US Global Investors, told Bloomberg, as quoted by Futurism: “AI is still there, but I think people got a little too excited, a little too over-hyped in terms of what we can expect in the near term.” That was Matousek’s view of market sentiment, not a settled finding that AI demand had disappeared or that an AI bubble had burst.

Blackwell supply constraints
Nvidia CFO Colette Kress said, “Demand for Blackwell platforms is well above supply, and we expect this to continue into next year.” The statement pointed to a supply constraint: demand exceeded available supply. It was not evidence that customers had stopped wanting the next-generation platform. At the same time, supply limits can complicate expectations about how quickly demand translates into deliveries and revenue.

The August 2024 headline is historical, not a description of Nvidia’s current growth. In its official August 26, 2026 fiscal Q2 2027 release, Nvidia reported revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year, including Data Center revenue of $89.0 billion, up 117%. It forecast fiscal Q3 2027 revenue of $108.0 billion, plus or minus 2%. These are company-reported figures and guidance, not independent measurements of AI’s total economic return. The later disclosure shows why it is misleading to read the 2024 headline as a claim that Nvidia’s revenue growth stopped. It does not, by itself, establish whether customers’ AI investments will earn an adequate return or predict how the stock will perform.
