The available reporting records visible online reaction, but does not establish that the calls reduced sales.
Why people called for a LesserEvil boycott
On February 6, 2025, The Daily Dot reported that users across social platforms were urging people not to buy LesserEvil products after connecting CEO Charles Coristine with Edward Coristine. The article described Edward as a 19-year-old DOGE staffer who used “BigBalls” as an online handle; that nickname was not an official job title. The family relationship and employment connection are reported attributions, not findings about the company’s policy or operations. (The Daily Dot)
The criticism focused on the reported family and employment connection. The Daily Dot quoted an anonymous Reddit post saying, “Do not buy any LesserEvil product,” and “People like Edward don’t become this way overnight.” Those are comments from an anonymous poster, not statements by LesserEvil or independently verified descriptions of company policy.
What LesserEvil reportedly told customers
On February 12, 2025, The Verge reported that LesserEvil had emailed customers after the connection became public. Organic Consumers republished The Verge’s account, including this statement attributed to the email: “LesserEvil is in no way affiliated with any political figures, political policies or political groups. Our values remain the same as they’ve always been: health, sustainability and affordability.” (Organic Consumers, republishing The Verge)

Do the boycott calls show a business impact?
No measured effect is established by the cited reporting. Posts and comments show that some people criticized the company or discussed whether they liked its snacks. They do not show how many customers joined a boycott, represent the views of all customers, or demonstrate that sales fell because of the controversy. The Daily Dot’s account and other cited coverage do not provide an independently measured participation or sales-impact figure. (The Daily Dot)

Company figures published later offer scale, not a before-and-after test of the boycott. Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery reported LesserEvil sales of $104 million in 2023 and $169 million in 2024, and projected $225 million for 2025 in a September 2025 profile. The 2025 figure was a projection, not a confirmed result; the profile also listed distribution in more than 40,000 outlets. None of these figures isolates the effect of February’s online calls. The boycott story concerned his reported DOGE role in February 2025. Later reporting changed the employment picture: The Guardian reported in June 2025 that Coristine had resigned, while subsequent reports described further federal work and a role in 2026. A June 2025 resignation report should not be treated as a statement of his current status. (The Guardian)
