The Motley Fool reported that Amphenol (NYSE: APH) gained nearly 1.6%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.6%. The target changes offer a plausible near-term catalyst, but they do not establish how much of the stock’s move they caused.
What drove Amphenol’s outperformance?
The Motley Fool attributed the day’s move in part to two reported analyst target increases. Goldman Sachs’ Mark Delaney raised his target from $102 to $116, while Baird’s Luke Junk raised his from $95 to $105. Both reportedly retained buy-equivalent recommendations. Delaney’s broader view, as relayed by The Motley Fool, was that suppliers such as Amphenol could benefit from continued construction of AI data centers. That is an analyst’s demand thesis, not company guidance or proof that AI-related demand caused APH’s Tuesday gain. The available reporting does not provide the assumptions, valuation methods, or time horizons behind either target, so the higher target alone does not establish which analyst has the stronger forecast.
How did APH compare with the market?
The Motley Fool reported a nearly 1.6% gain for APH on October 6, compared with a 0.6% rise for the S&P 500. The Associated Press reported that the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.5% to 51,521.28 and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.4% to 27,599.79 that day. Because the major indexes also advanced, the session was not a simple case of Amphenol rising while the market fell. The available sources do not isolate how much of APH’s outperformance came from the target changes, the broader market, or other trading factors.
What do Amphenol’s latest reported results show?
Amphenol’s latest results identified in the available sources were for the second quarter of 2026. The company reported $8.8 billion in sales, up 55% in U.S. dollars and 30% organically year over year, alongside $10.7 billion in orders and adjusted diluted earnings per share of $1.35. These results provide operating context, but they were not reported as the specific catalyst for the October 6 move.

For the third quarter, Amphenol forecast sales of $9.3 billion to $9.4 billion, assuming current market conditions and constant exchange rates.
