Roman Gevorkyan is an Armenian football investor and the founder and managing partner of Noah Football Group. In May 2023 he was reported to be strongly considering a bid for Charlton Athletic, with the club intended as the flagship of his multi-club group. That report describes interest, not a bid or an agreed deal. Charlton has since been owned by Global Football Partners (GFP), which completed its purchase on July 21, 2023, and in August 2026 GFP was reported to be selling the club. Nothing in the available reporting shows Gevorkyan involved in either of those ownership events.
Who is Roman Gevorkyan?
Noah Football Group’s own website names Gevorkyan as its founder and managing partner and says he has more than ten years of experience owning and managing football clubs. The same site lists past involvement with FC Noah in Armenia, KFC Uerdingen in Germany, Siena in Italy and Paris FC in France. These descriptions, including any claims about investment or sporting results, are the group’s own account. They have not been independently verified here, so they should be read as the company’s self-description rather than an audited record.
What the 2023 report said about Charlton
The Charlton interest was reported on 8 May 2023 by Public Radio of Armenia, which relayed reporting from The Athletic. According to that report, Gevorkyan was strongly considering a bid for Charlton and wanted the club to become the flagship of Noah Football Group. Three points matter for reading it correctly:
- It describes consideration, not a transaction. No completed agreement, bid or offer is reported.
- It is more than two years old. It cannot be used to say that Gevorkyan is currently pursuing Charlton.
- It contains no direct quote from Gevorkyan about Charlton. Any statement attributed to him about the club should be treated as unverified unless a primary source is cited.
Who owns Charlton Athletic now
Charlton’s official website says Global Football Partners, acting through its UK subsidiary SE7 Partners, completed its acquisition of Charlton Athletic and Charlton Athletic Women on July 21, 2023. The club’s staff page, last updated 12 August 2026, lists Gabriel Brener and family, Joshua Friedman and family, Warren Rosenfeld and family, Munir Javeri and Marc Boyan as shareholders holding five percent or more. It names Gavin Carter as non-executive chair and James Rodwell as managing director.

On 3 August 2026 The Guardian reported that GFP had put Charlton up for sale and had engaged Oakwell Sports Advisory to find a buyer. The same report said GFP paid around £15m for the club in 2023. That figure is The Guardian’s reporting of the purchase price, not an independently audited valuation, and it was not an offer from Gevorkyan. The available reporting does not show whether the 2026 sale process has concluded, so a reader should not assume a new owner has been agreed.

What a Charlton takeover would have to clear
The English Football League (EFL) says that an acquisition of control at a club is subject to both EFL requirements and those of the Independent Football Regulator. Its owners, directors and senior executives regime began on 5 May 2026. Under that regime, the EFL checks several areas before approving a new controlling owner:

The EFL also requires a prospective owner to show where the money for the purchase and later operations comes from. Its guidance states: “any potential owner must demonstrate to the EFL the ultimate Source and Sufficiency of Funding which will underpin the purchase and future operations.” These are general process requirements. They do not show that Gevorkyan or any other named bidder has passed them.

- Check whether a story is dated 2023 (the Gevorkyan interest) or 2026 (the GFP sale process). They describe different events.
- Look for an official source, such as a Charlton club statement or an EFL announcement, before treating a change of ownership as settled.
- Where a named bidder is reported, ask whether the report identifies a completed agreement, a formal offer, or only interest.
- Where a bidder claims a track record, check whether it comes from the bidder’s own website or from an independent source.
Applying those checks to the current reporting gives a clear answer: Gevorkyan’s Charlton interest is a documented 2023 report, and the current sale story concerns GFP, not a confirmed Gevorkyan takeover.
