Five U.S. card families include Centurion Lounge access, but eligibility depends on the exact card, itinerary, booking, and guest terms.

In the U.S., eligible cardmembers of the Consumer Platinum Card, Business Platinum Card, Corporate Platinum Card, Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card, and Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Card can access The Centurion Lounge. The travel rules are not the same for every card: Platinum cardmembers generally can fly on any carrier, while Delta Reserve cardmembers must meet Delta-flight and booking conditions. Access is subject to space availability, and guest privileges vary by card and lounge.

Which cards qualify?

The eligible U.S. card families are the Consumer Platinum, Business Platinum, Corporate Platinum, Delta SkyMiles Reserve, and Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business cards. The card name alone is not enough: certain additional or employee cards associated with Platinum accounts are specifically excluded.

Card Who is eligible Travel condition What to have ready Guest rule
Consumer Platinum Card Eligible cardmembers; the Consumer Companion Platinum Card is excluded. Confirmed same-day departing flight on any carrier; general lounge timing rules apply. Valid card and boarding pass showing the cardmember’s name. Guest terms are not established in the cited card terms summarized here; check current terms for the account and lounge.
Business Platinum Card Eligible Business Platinum Cardmembers; Employee Business Expense Cards are excluded. Generally a confirmed same-day departing flight on any carrier; general lounge timing rules apply. Valid eligible card and travel documentation required by the current terms. Up to two complimentary guests may be available after the Business Platinum account reaches $75,000 in eligible purchases in a calendar year; otherwise paid guest access applies under the terms.
Corporate Platinum Card Corporate Platinum Cardmembers. Same-day travel. Valid card, government ID, and boarding pass. Corporate terms describe complimentary companions, but the applicable lounge’s rules should be confirmed.
Delta SkyMiles Reserve Card Basic and Additional cardmembers. Eligible same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight, with booking and payment conditions met. Valid Reserve card and boarding pass showing a confirmed reservation and seat or boarding-zone assignment. In the cited U.S. terms, up to two guests may be brought for $50 each, or $30 each for children ages 2 through 17, per person and location.
Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Card Basic and Additional cardmembers. Eligible same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight, with booking and payment conditions met. Valid Reserve Business card and boarding pass showing a confirmed reservation and seat or boarding-zone assignment. In the cited U.S. terms, up to two guests may be brought for $50 each, or $30 each for children ages 2 through 17, per person and location.

These details come from American Express’s U.S. Platinum benefit terms, Corporate Platinum lounge terms and Delta Reserve and Delta Reserve Business access terms. Corporate accounts may have distinct terms, so use the specific account’s current benefit language when it differs from a general card description.

How do the flight rules differ?

Consumer and Business Platinum

For Consumer and Business Platinum cardmembers, the flight may generally be on any carrier, provided it is a confirmed departing flight on the same day as the visit. A ticket for a flight on a later date does not meet that same-day rule. The cardmember’s name on the boarding pass must match the name associated with the valid card.

Arrival is generally allowed within three hours of departure. For a layover, the window is within five hours of the connecting flight. A same-day round trip is not treated as a connecting flight for purposes of the layover window. These timing details are set out in the Centurion Lounge Network FAQ and the Platinum lounge terms.

Corporate Platinum

Corporate Platinum terms require same-day travel and specify a valid Corporate Platinum Card, government-issued identification, and a boarding pass. Because corporate benefits can be governed by account-specific terms, check the Corporate Platinum benefit terms and the card account’s instructions before relying on a general Platinum rule for flight eligibility or companions. The issuer’s Corporate Platinum Card Member Benefit Terms describe the cardmember’s lounge benefit.

Delta SkyMiles Reserve and Reserve Business

Delta Reserve access is tied to travel on an eligible same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight; it is not the any-carrier arrangement that generally applies to the Consumer and Business Platinum cards. The eligible flight must also meet the booking and payment conditions in the benefit terms, which require it to be booked on a U.S.-issued American Express Card. The cardmember must present the eligible Reserve card and a boarding pass showing a confirmed reservation and seat or boarding-zone assignment.

The same key Delta-flight, booking, and proof requirements apply to the Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Card. A Reserve card in a wallet is not, by itself, enough if the itinerary or booking does not satisfy the terms. Review the current Delta Reserve or Delta Reserve Business rules against the actual ticket before going to the lounge.

When can you enter?

For the Platinum travel rules, count back from the relevant departure: a standard visit is within three hours of departure, while a visit during a layover is within five hours of the connecting flight. The distinction matters when a traveler has a long connection or a same-day return itinerary. The same-day round trip exception means a traveler cannot assume that the return segment creates a qualifying layover window.

Delta Reserve cardmembers should check the specific Delta access terms alongside the itinerary; the cited Delta terms focus on an eligible same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight and the required booking and boarding-pass details. Do not assume that a timing rule described for Platinum travel automatically changes the Delta-specific eligibility conditions.

Entry is not guaranteed even when the card, flight, and arrival time satisfy the applicable rules. American Express states, “All access to The Centurion Lounge is subject to space availability.” A lounge may therefore be unable to admit an otherwise eligible traveler when capacity is constrained.

What guest access is included?

Business Platinum threshold

Business Platinum’s guest benefit has a spending condition. American Express says a cardmember may qualify for complimentary access for up to two guests after at least $75,000 in eligible purchases on the Platinum Account in a calendar year. If the requirement is not met, paid guest access applies under the terms. The figure is a calendar-year eligible-purchase threshold—not a monthly spend requirement or a general rule for every Platinum card. The issuer’s business card comparison information describes this threshold; confirm the effective terms on the account before travel.

Delta Reserve guest fees

Under the cited U.S. Delta Reserve terms, a cardmember may bring up to two guests for $50 per person, per location, or $30 per child ages 2 through 17, per person and location. Those are fees for eligible guests under the U.S. benefit terms, not a universal price for other cards or international lounges. The Delta Reserve and Reserve Business benefit pages set out the relevant terms, and location rules may differ internationally.

Corporate Platinum companions

Corporate Platinum benefit terms describe complimentary companions. The number and application of that benefit should be checked against the rules for the specific lounge and corporate account. Do not infer that the Corporate Platinum companion policy also applies to Consumer Platinum, Business Platinum, or Delta Reserve.

Other Platinum cards and guests

Consumer Companion Platinum Cards do not qualify for Centurion Lounge access, and Employee Business Expense Cards on Business Platinum accounts are also excluded. These exclusions concern the cardholder’s eligibility; they should not be confused with a primary cardmember’s guest privilege. The applicable guest allowance depends on the eligible card and its current terms.

Which locations are covered?

The Centurion Lounge network includes U.S. locations and select international locations. The issuer’s current network FAQ identifies examples including London Heathrow, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. Lounge availability and guest rules can vary by location, so verify the particular airport’s entry policy rather than assuming that a U.S. guest allowance applies worldwide. The network FAQ is the place to check the listed locations and location-specific details before departure.

How to check eligibility before you travel

  1. Identify the exact card. Check the physical or digital card name and whether it is a primary, additional, companion, or employee card. A Consumer Companion Platinum Card and a Business Platinum Employee Business Expense Card are explicitly ineligible for Centurion Lounge access.
  2. Check the itinerary against that card’s rule. For Consumer and Business Platinum, confirm a same-day departing flight on any carrier. For Delta Reserve or Reserve Business, confirm the same-day Delta-marketed or Delta-operated flight and that the booking meets the card’s payment condition.
  3. Check what your boarding pass proves. Platinum travelers should have a confirmed flight and a name matching the valid card. Delta Reserve travelers need a confirmed reservation and seat or boarding-zone assignment displayed on the boarding pass. Corporate Platinum cardmembers should have the valid card, government ID, and same-day boarding pass.
  4. Calculate the arrival window. For Platinum access, plan to arrive within three hours of departure or, during a qualifying layover, within five hours of the connecting flight. Do not treat a same-day round trip as a connection.
  5. Settle guest details in advance. Determine whether the card’s terms offer complimentary guests, require a spending threshold, or charge per guest. For a corporate account, use the account terms and confirm the specific lounge’s companion policy.
  6. Check the lounge’s current location rules. Confirm that the lounge is listed for the airport and review its local guest policy. Allow for the possibility that access may be unavailable if space is limited.

Common reasons an eligible traveler may be turned away

  • The card variant is excluded. A companion or employee expense card may look connected to a qualifying Platinum account without carrying the same lounge benefit.
  • The flight does not fit the card’s rule. A non-Delta flight does not meet the Delta Reserve flight condition, while a flight on a later date does not meet the same-day requirement described for Platinum access.
  • The required booking or proof is missing. Delta Reserve terms include a U.S.-issued American Express Card booking condition and require a boarding pass reflecting a confirmed reservation and seat or boarding-zone assignment.
  • The traveler arrives outside the permitted window. The Platinum three-hour departure window and five-hour connection window are distinct; a same-day return does not convert into a layover.
  • The lounge has no available space. Eligibility is conditional, not a reservation or guarantee of entry.
  • A guest assumption does not match the account terms. Business Platinum’s complimentary guest access depends on the calendar-year eligible-purchase threshold, Delta Reserve guest access is fee-based in the cited U.S. terms, and Corporate Platinum companion rules should be checked for the location.

What to verify because benefits can change

The card eligibility and conditions above reflect U.S. American Express benefit terms and lounge information. Benefit terms, guest fees, spending thresholds, location coverage, and local guest policies can change. Before departure, open the current benefit terms for the exact card and account, then check the relevant lounge’s current policy. This is especially important for Corporate Platinum accounts and international visits, where account and location rules may differ.
