Several major U.S. airlines have active career-search portals, but whether an airline is hiring for a specific job depends on the role and location. In the listings checked on October 8, 2026, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air showed 56 U.S. jobs combined; United and Southwest provided live job-search routes, while Delta listed career areas and American described hiring for operationally necessary positions as they are posted. Check the airline’s own posting for the opening you want before applying.
Which airlines have current job listings or searches?
The evidence below reflects official airline career pages checked on October 8, 2026. Portals change frequently, and a careers page or job-family list does not guarantee a current vacancy in that category.
| Airline | What its official career page showed | How to verify an opening |
|---|---|---|
| Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air | The combined portal displayed 56 U.S. listings: 26 at Alaska Airlines, 18 at Horizon Air and 12 at Hawaiian Airlines. Categories included flight attendants, pilots, maintenance technicians, corporate and operations, and airport operations. Official jobs page | Search the combined listings for the specific airline, job title and location; confirm the posting remains open. |
| United Airlines | The careers homepage linked to open jobs and featured Digital Technology, Ramp Agents and Technical Operations. Official careers page | Use its open-jobs search to check the role and location. |
| Southwest Airlines | The careers site offered a job-browse page and a talent community for updates. It says official postings and applications are handled through its site. Official careers page | Browse the official listings and apply there. |
| Delta Air Lines | The overview listed areas including Flight Attendants, Pilots, Technical Operations & Engineering, ACS/Cargo/Clean, Reservation Sales & Customer Care, Corporate, and Students & Early Careers. It linked to a career search and talent community. Official careers page | Search for a live opening; a listed career area alone is not evidence of a vacancy. |
| American Airlines | The careers page said hiring would be limited to operationally necessary positions as they are posted. It also reported that parts of the site were unavailable for applications, application-status checks and profile changes. Official careers page | Use the accessible job-search route and verify the posting and application status there. |
How to check whether a specific airline job is open
- Open the airline’s official careers page using the links above.
- Search by job title or job family and narrow results by location. For “near me,” search the city, airport or base where you can work; results may vary by location.
- Open the individual posting and confirm its application status or deadline, required qualifications, work location, employment type, schedule, and any employer-specific training or eligibility requirements.
- Apply through the official portal, then use that portal to check application status when the site supports it.
Do not treat a talent-community invitation, a general careers page or a featured job category as proof that a particular role is currently open.
What if you want to be a flight attendant?
Flight attendant work appeared among the categories on the combined Alaska, Hawaiian and Horizon jobs page. Delta’s overview also named Flight Attendants as a career area. Those category listings do not establish that a flight attendant vacancy is open now: search each airline’s live portal for the role and location, then check the individual posting’s requirements and application status.

How to compare openings before applying
When you find more than one relevant posting, compare the details in the listings rather than assuming that the same job title means the same working conditions across airlines.
- Job family and qualifications: Check required experience, credentials and eligibility.
- Location or base: Confirm where the role is based and whether that location works for you.
- Employment type and schedule: Review hours, shifts and employment status stated in the posting.
- Application status: Confirm the opening is still accepting applications and note any deadline.
- Training and other requirements: Review any employer-specific conditions before applying.
How to avoid airline hiring scams
Use the airline’s official career portal rather than relying on an unsolicited message or a third-party application link. Delta says it will never ask candidates to pay during recruitment or hiring, including for screenings or applications, and identifies @delta.com as its official recruitment email domain. Southwest says official postings should be applied to at careers.southwestair.com and warns against requests for payment or personal financial information during hiring or training. These are the stated policies of those two airlines; verify any other carrier’s process through its own site.

Why airline employee totals do not show who is hiring
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported full-time-equivalent employment totals for July 2026 of 107,176 at Delta, 111,763 at American, 74,679 at Southwest and 29,448 at Alaska. These figures describe workforce size, not job openings, so they cannot establish whether an airline is hiring now.
