The original Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense was a limited-quantity release in 2024, and its current stock and resale price are not confirmed here. Check your country’s PlayStation Direct store and authorized retailers, then verify that a listing is for the original controller—not the separately named ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition—before comparing the total price.
Where to look for the original controller
Sony announced the original controller for sale through direct.playstation.com and selected retailers in the United States and specified European markets. For Southeast Asia, Sony directed buyers to local retailers. Those were launch-period channels; the announcement does not establish that any retailer has stock now.
- PlayStation Direct: Check the PlayStation Direct store for your country for a current product listing. A historical announcement is not evidence of current inventory.
- Authorized retailers: Retailers varied by region. Check local authorized sellers and confirm the exact model, seller identity, condition, return terms, shipping, and final checkout total.
- Marketplace listings: Treat each resale offer individually. The sources do not establish a reliable current resale benchmark, so compare only listings for the same edition and condition.
A September 2025 GamesRadar report named Amazon, PlayStation Direct, Walmart, and GameStop as retailer paths for the later Joyful edition in the US. That dated coverage is a possible retailer lead, not confirmation of present stock or availability of the original controller.
How to tell the original from the Joyful edition
The original product is named “DualSense wireless controller – Astro Bot Limited Edition.” Sony’s current DualSense lineup lists “ASTRO BOT Joyful Limited Edition” as a separate product. If you want the first release, make sure the listing names the original edition and inspect product photos. Sony described its design as inspired by Astro’s Dual Speeder, with blue accents on the handles and buttons, sci-fi lines, and Astro’s eyes on the touchpad. The current PlayStation DualSense page shows the newer named edition; it does not establish that the original is available.

Launch date, prices, and regional availability
Sony announced the original on July 29, 2024, with preorders scheduled for August 9 and a limited-quantity release on September 6, 2024. Its announced launch prices were $79.99, €79.99, £69.99, and ¥11,980. These are historical launch prices, not current prices or resale values.
For Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam, Sony’s Southeast Asia announcement listed launch prices of SGD 114, MYR 399, IDR 1,449,000, THB 2,690, PHP 4,590, and VND 2,299,000, with preorders through local retailers beginning August 9, 2024. Retailer lists and prices differ by market; check local sources for any present offer.
What to check before paying
- Confirm the edition: Look for “Astro Bot Limited Edition” and compare the product photos. Do not assume a listing for an Astro Bot controller is the original.
- Check who is selling it: On a marketplace, distinguish the platform from the individual seller and review seller history.
- Review condition and returns: Confirm whether the controller is new, used, or open-box, and read the return terms before ordering.
- Compare the full cost: Include shipping and any other checkout charges. A launch price from 2024 is not a guide to whether a resale offer is fair today.
Compatibility and the Astro Bot game
Sony’s Japan product page lists compatibility for PS5, PC/Mac, and mobile devices. Sony also highlighted Astro Bot’s use of DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and motion controls. The game is sold separately; it is an optional companion, not a required controller accessory. The PlayStation Store listing identifies ASTRO BOT as a PS5 game released September 6, 2024.
