Emirates has the largest publicly announced Boeing 777X order: 270 aircraft, according to Boeing’s November 17, 2025 announcement. Qatar Airways is another major customer, but its latest Boeing announcement does not state an updated cumulative total. Other published figures include 35 777-9s for Cathay Pacific, 20 for Korean Air, and 14 777X aircraft across two variants for China Airlines. Because the figures come from different dates and announcements, they are a snapshot—not a synchronized ranking of every customer.
How many Boeing 777Xs have the leading airlines ordered?
The figures below are Boeing-reported announcements. They distinguish cumulative order books from individual order announcements and, where stated, separate firm orders from options.
| Airline | Published figure | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| Emirates | 270 aircraft | Boeing’s combined 777-9 and 777-8 order total after a November 17, 2025 order for 65 777-9s. Boeing described Emirates as its largest 777X customer. Boeing, November 17, 2025. |
| Qatar Airways | 94 aircraft (July 2024); 30 more 777-9s announced (May 2025) | Boeing reported 94 total 777X aircraft in July 2024: 60 777-9s and 34 777-8 Freighters. Its May 2025 announcement added a 30-aircraft 777-9 order but did not state a revised cumulative total. Boeing, May 14, 2025; Boeing, July 23, 2024. |
| Cathay Pacific | 35 aircraft | Boeing-reported 777-9 order book after Cathay ordered 14 more 777-9s in August 2025. Boeing, August 6, 2025. |
| Korean Air | 20 aircraft | Boeing reported that Korean Air finalized an order including 20 777-9s in March 2025. Boeing, March 26, 2025. |
| China Airlines | 14 firm aircraft, plus options | The May 2025 firm order combined 10 777-9s and four 777-8 Freighters. Options cover five more 777-9s and four more freighters; they are not part of the 14-aircraft firm order. Boeing, May 8, 2025. |
This table compares the specific figures Boeing published, not like-for-like totals taken on one date. In particular, Qatar’s 94 is a cumulative total stated in July 2024, while its 30-aircraft figure is a later order announcement. Boeing’s later release also described options for an additional 50 787 and 777X aircraft in combination, without breaking those options into a revised 777X customer total. It would therefore be misleading to present a definitive updated Qatar total by simply adding the figures.
Why the figures are not a complete customer ranking
Airline order announcements can report a new increment, a cumulative order book, or a mix of firm aircraft and options. They can also combine passenger 777-9s, passenger 777-8s, and 777-8 Freighters. The table labels those differences where the announcements establish them, but the selected releases do not provide a same-date customer-by-customer ledger. The figures support Emirates as the leader in the published announcements above; they do not establish a precise rank for every 777X customer.

- Order versus option: A firm order is not the same as an option, which may be exercised later. China Airlines’ 14 firm aircraft should be kept separate from its nine options.
- Increment versus total: A newly announced batch does not by itself reveal the airline’s cumulative order book. Qatar’s May 2025 announcement is an example.
- Variant: A total combining passenger aircraft and freighters is not directly comparable to a figure explicitly limited to 777-9 passenger jets.
- Date: Orders may change after an announcement. A dated figure should not be treated as a live total unless Boeing publishes an updated cumulative count.
How large is the overall 777X order book?
Boeing’s 2025 annual report lists 560 777X orders, net of ASC 606 adjustments, as of December 31, 2025. That is a program-wide family total, not an airline ranking. The report also says 12 leading customers had ordered the passenger 777-8 and 777-9 by year-end. The Boeing Company, 2025 Annual Report.

An order count describes aircraft customers have ordered; it does not mean those planes have been delivered or entered service. Boeing’s 2025 annual report stated an expectation at that time of a first 777-9 delivery in 2027, with the first 777-8 Freighter expected approximately two years later. Those were Boeing’s stated expectations in that report, not guaranteed delivery dates.
