American Airlines and its partners serve more than 350 destinations across six continents, according to the airline’s destination directory. That combined network figure is not a ranking of the most popular places, nor a count of international nonstop routes operated by American. The directory lists destinations by region and country, so the best route for you depends on your departure airport, dates, itinerary and fare.
How to interpret American’s international destination list
American’s destination directory is a catalog, not a “top destinations” ranking. It groups locations by region and country, and its more-than-350-destination figure includes American’s partners. The directory does not rank places by passenger volume or popularity, and the total should not be read as the number of international nonstop destinations flown by American-operated aircraft.
Partner reach matters when planning: a destination may be available on an itinerary involving another airline rather than on a flight operated by American. Check the operator and connections for the specific trip before treating a directory entry as a direct American route.

These are examples from the directory, not a popularity order or a guarantee of a nonstop flight from a particular U.S. city. Service and operating carrier can differ by route and date.
Recently announced routes: distinguish current from planned service
Routes announced for 2026
American’s 2026 route announcement included Philadelphia–Budapest and Philadelphia–Prague, Dallas/Fort Worth–Athens, and Miami–Milan. It also described seasonal or extended service on routes including Dallas/Fort Worth–Zurich and Dallas/Fort Worth–Buenos Aires. Route dates and schedules can change; consult the airline’s 2026 route announcement and booking results for current details.

American’s senior vice president of network and schedule planning, Brian Znotins, said the routes reflected summer demand for Europe. That is the airline’s stated rationale, not an independently published survey result.
Routes announced for summer 2027
American announced seven international routes and three new Philadelphia destinations for summer 2027: Porto, Reykjavik and Vienna. It also announced additional service involving Amsterdam, Barcelona, Nice, London Heathrow and Tokyo. These are future announced services, not confirmation that every flight is currently available to book. Check the airline’s summer 2027 announcement and booking page for schedules and availability.

International options from Miami and other gateways
American’s 2026 newsroom announcement said it served 100 destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America. That figure applies to those regions, not the airline’s full international network. The announcement identifies Miami as American’s largest U.S. gateway to that region; it does not mean every destination is nonstop from Miami or available year-round.
For any destination, compare the trip from your own departure airport. A city may be reachable with a connection or on a partner airline even when no American-operated nonstop is offered from your gateway.

How to check whether a destination works for your trip
- Open American’s flight-planning page and search using your departure city or airport and destination.
- Try your intended travel dates, then compare alternate dates if your plans allow; American says fares vary by destination, dates and demand.
- Review the itinerary details for connections and the operating airline. Do not assume a directory listing means a nonstop American-operated flight.
- Compare the schedule and fare for the specific itinerary before booking. Availability can vary by season and date.
