When did Ronaldo buy Real Valladolid?
Real Valladolid announced the acquisition on 3 September 2018. Ronaldo Nazário bought 51% of the club’s shares from Carlos Suárez, making him the majority shareholder. The club’s announcement described Suárez as retaining a minority stake and continuing to manage the club’s daily operations at that point.
What role did Ronaldo have at the club?
Majority ownership and day-to-day executive management were distinct roles. Ronaldo’s acquisition placed him in control as the majority shareholder, while Suárez was to remain responsible for daily operations, according to the 2018 announcement. At his public presentation, Ronaldo said, “Quiero que forméis parte del presente y del futuro del Real Valladolid” (“I want you to be part of Real Valladolid’s present and future”). He also described the new management with four words: “competitividad, transparencia, revolución y social” (“competitiveness, transparency, revolution and social”). The statements appear in the club’s account of the presentation.

Who owns Real Valladolid now?
Real Valladolid said Ronaldo had agreed to transfer his majority shareholding in a later official statement. The club described the buyer as a North American investment group backed by a European fund and said administrative authorization was still required. That announcement establishes an agreed transfer, not by itself that authorization was granted or the transaction completed.
A May 2026 retrospective by AS reported that the change was announced as official on 23 May 2025, identified the group as Ignite, and listed the post-transaction holdings as follows:
