The Boeing–Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TBAL) facility in Hyderabad manufactures aircraft structures, not complete aircraft. Its work began with AH-64 Apache helicopter fuselages and related structures, then expanded to include vertical fins for Boeing’s 737 family. The project was announced at a foundation-laying ceremony in 2016; the facility was inaugurated in 2018.
What does the Tata-Boeing joint venture in Hyderabad manufacture?
TBAL makes aerostructures that are integrated into aircraft assembled by Boeing. The company announcements describe two main programs: structures for the military AH-64 Apache and vertical fins for the commercial 737 family. They do not say that the Hyderabad site assembles complete Apache helicopters or 737 aircraft.
| Program | Hyderabad work reported | Production timeline |
|---|---|---|
| AH-64 Apache | Fuselages; the 2018 inauguration announcement also named secondary structures and vertical spar boxes. | Boeing reported the 400th AH-64E Apache fuselage milestone in September 2026. |
| Boeing 737 family | Vertical-fin structures. | Boeing announced the production line in February 2021; TBAL shipped its first vertical fin structure from the line in February 2023. |
When did the Hyderabad facility open?
Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems marked the facility’s foundation laying on June 18, 2016. The venture was intended to make Apache fuselages and other aerostructures, while also pursuing integrated-systems opportunities. At the ceremony, Boeing vice president for vertical lift and TBAL board member Dave Koopersmith called the groundbreaking “the next step in Boeing and TASL’s journey to develop key technologies and capabilities.” Tata Advanced Systems’ then-managing director and CEO, and TBAL board member, Sukaran Singh, said, “We are proud to partner with Boeing to manufacture complex aerospace aerostructures parts out of India”. These are roles as given in Tata’s 2016 release, not claims about the speakers’ current positions. Tata’s June 18, 2016 announcement
The companies inaugurated the Hyderabad facility on March 1, 2018. At that point, they described TBAL as the sole global producer of Apache fuselages and said it would also make secondary structures and vertical spar boxes. “Sole global producer” was the companies’ claim at inauguration; it should not be read as an independently verified or necessarily current market-position finding. Does the Hyderabad plant make Boeing 737 parts?
Yes. Boeing announced a 737-family vertical-fin production line at TBAL in February 2021. In February 2023, TBAL shipped the first vertical fin structure from that line to Boeing’s Renton, Washington, facility, where it was to be integrated into a 737. The first shipment is a reported milestone; it is distinct from the 2021 announcement of the line. Boeing’s February 2023 shipment announcement

In a September 7, 2026 release, Boeing said TBAL had rolled out its 400th AH-64E Apache fuselage from the Hyderabad facility, which the company described as covering 52,000 square meters. The same release reported more than 750 engineers and technicians working at TBAL. These figures are Boeing’s reported figures, not independently audited measures. They should not be treated as a verified growth calculation against the opening-era figures: at the 2018 inauguration, Boeing reported an area of 14,000 square meters and 350 workers, using a different date and without establishing a directly comparable basis. Boeing’s 2026 release said the Hyderabad-made fuselages are integrated into aircraft supplied worldwide. It also reported that six Apaches were delivered to the Indian Army in 2025 and that the Indian Air Force operates 22 AH-64E aircraft. Those customer and fleet figures are Boeing’s statements in that release, not independent verification of the facility’s output or deliveries.
