Ownership and management are separate measures. A person can own a large block of shares without running the business, and a person can hold a directorship that is inactive in practice. The reporting above supports the first pattern for Sullivan: a significant shareholding with no executive role. It does not establish whether his shareholding has changed since July 2026.
What happened in June 2026
Companies House records Sullivan’s resignation as a director on 6 June 2026. Contemporary coverage, including the Guardian, linked his departure as joint-chairman to the impending publication of allegations about his private life. Sullivan denied those allegations and said he did not want personal matters to distract the club. In the Guardian’s account, he said:

#1 Best Overall
“None of these allegations relate to my more than 30 years in football; West Ham United has been one of the greatest passions and privileges of my life.”
The reporting cited here does not describe the specific allegations, and it does not establish any outcome from later legal proceedings. Any coverage of the allegations should present them as claims made about him and include his denial.

What Companies House shows about his current roles
Companies House lists David Sullivan as a director of several companies that are currently active. The reporting identifies these as:
- Conegate (2005) Limited
- Conegate (2003) Limited
- Conegate Holdings Limited
- Conegate Developments Limited
- Rickleford Group Limited
- Rosequake Development Holdings Limited
- Rosequake Investment Holdings Limited
- Roldvale Limited
The register confirms these appointments and their status when the record was viewed. It does not say what these companies are doing now, or how much time Sullivan puts into them. Companies House also states that it does not check the accuracy of the information filed with it, so the register should be read as a record of what was filed. Listing a director is not evidence of daily management, and it is not evidence that he has retired.

Birmingham City: a past chapter
Sullivan’s directorships at Birmingham City Limited and Birmingham City Football Club Limited ended on 6 October 2009, according to Companies House. The Guardian reports that he and David Gold had previously owned a majority stake in the club. Nothing in the reporting cited here indicates a current role at Birmingham City, so the phrase “ex-Birmingham City owner” describes a past period of ownership.
How to check his current status yourself
- Search for the officer’s name on the Companies House service and open the appointment list. Check the “Active” or “Resigned” status next to each company, and note the resignation dates.
- Open each company’s filing history to see the most recent confirmation statement and accounts. These show what was filed, not what the company is doing in practice.
- For shareholding, look for West Ham’s own published statements or the Fan Advisory Board’s announcements, and check their dates. Club or supporter-group statements are more current than older press coverage.
- Read any statement with a date attached. A July 2026 description of shareholding should not be treated as confirmation of the position in October 2026 without a newer source.
What remains unknown
The reporting cited here does not give a current shareholding figure from a source dated after July 2026. It does not explain the commercial activity of his private companies, and it does not report any change to his stake. It also does not confirm the outcome of the allegations or any legal proceedings connected with them.
Rank #4
In short, the latest sources describe Sullivan as a former West Ham director who remains a major shareholder with no day-to-day role. His registered private-company roles are active on the register, and his Birmingham City directorships ended in 2009.

Sullivan’s most recent on-record comment about West Ham, reported by Read West Ham on 29 July 2026, was brief: “I’m not involved so I do not know.” It was given in answer to questions about the club’s situation, so it is best read as a statement about his current position rather than a full account of his activity.
Best Value
The club’s governance statement, relayed by the Fan Advisory Board on 22 July 2026, was that Sullivan remained the largest individual shareholder with approximately 38% of shares, and that he no longer had responsibility for day-to-day running. That description comes from the Fan Advisory Board’s account of what the club told it, not from a separate Companies House or public filing.
