KBB reports that the model depreciated $17,576, or 36%, over three years. These are estimates, not guaranteed sale prices; the value of a specific vehicle depends on its details and local market.
Three-year Model Y resale and trade-in estimates
Kelley Blue Book’s live valuation page, accessed October 8, 2026, reports these figures for the 2023 Model Y:

The figures are KBB estimates for the model year, not a nationwide record of completed sales or a promise of what an individual owner will receive. KBB says its depreciation estimates compare private-party values of similar vehicles and incorporate Manheim auction data forecasts. Why resale and trade-in values differ
“Resale” generally refers to selling the car privately, while a trade-in is an offer from a dealer applying the vehicle’s value toward another purchase. They are different transaction types, so compare like with like rather than treating one figure as the universal value of a Model Y.

Edmunds provides a separate illustration for a 2025 Model Y with no options, approximately 12,000 miles per year, and clean condition: about $39,678 private-party or $37,227 trade-in. What can change the value of your Model Y?
Edmunds identifies trim, mileage, condition, and options as factors in its estimate. Location and market conditions matter too: KBB notes that local weather and other market factors can affect depreciation. Two Model Ys of the same model year can therefore have different estimates.

- Mileage: Enter the vehicle’s actual odometer reading rather than relying on a typical-mileage example.
- Condition: Use an honest assessment of the car’s condition; a clean-condition estimate may not fit a vehicle with significant wear or damage.
- Trim and options: Confirm the exact version and equipment. An estimate for a vehicle with no options may not apply to one with different equipment.
- Location: Check values relevant to your area, since local market factors can affect the result.
- Transaction type: Request a private-party estimate when planning a private sale and a trade-in estimate when evaluating a dealer offer.
How to estimate what your own Model Y is worth
- Identify the vehicle: Record its model year, trim, options, mileage, and condition.
- Choose the value you need: Look up private-party resale and trade-in values separately.
- Use a current appraisal: Enter the exact details in a valuation tool such as KBB or Edmunds rather than applying a model-year estimate to every vehicle.
- Compare offers on the same basis: Where available, compare multiple trade-in offers or private-sale estimates using consistent vehicle details and location.
The cited pages provide estimates, not a single nationwide average of realized three-year Model Y sales. A vehicle-specific appraisal and comparable offers are more useful for a personal decision than treating the headline figure as a guaranteed price.
