There is no single five-year resale price for a Tesla: the estimate depends on the model and on whether the figure is a market estimate or a projection. In iSeeCars’ 2026 ranking, the Model 3 has the highest estimated retention among the Tesla models listed, at 46.4%. Its displayed average five-year-old price is $23,452, but that is a broad model-level figure—not an offer for your car.
Five-year Tesla resale estimates by model
iSeeCars’ 2026 Tesla ranking reports estimated retained value and average prices for five-year-old vehicles. The percentages are statistical estimates based on depreciation from MSRP; they are not personalized valuations.

| Model Y | 44.6% | $26,914 |

How much value do Teslas lose in five years?
In iSeeCars’ 2026 study, the Model 3’s estimated five-year depreciation was 54.6%, and the Model Y’s was 57.8%. Across all electric vehicles, average five-year depreciation was 57.2%, compared with 41.8% across vehicles overall. iSeeCars analyzed more than 950,000 five-year-old used cars sold from March 2025 through February 2026, modeling depreciation against inflation-adjusted MSRP.

These are study-wide and model-level results, not a forecast for every Tesla. The study’s scope and calculation matter: it uses prices from a defined period of used-car sales, rather than predicting the future price of a newly purchased vehicle. See iSeeCars’ 2026 vehicle depreciation study for its methodology and comparisons.
Why published Tesla resale estimates differ
Different sources measure different populations and time periods, so their percentages should not be averaged or treated as interchangeable.

- iSeeCars’ used-car analysis: The 2026 study models depreciation from observed prices of five-year-old vehicles sold between March 2025 and February 2026. Its separate Tesla ranking gives model-level retention estimates and average prices for five-year-old cars.
- Kelley Blue Book’s projection: KBB’s 2026 Best Resale Value awards use projections from its Official Residual Value Guide for 2026 model-year vehicles. Its residual values project future auction values for vehicles in average condition with 75,000 miles at the end of five years. KBB named the Model 3 its 2026 Best Resale Value electric car. That award is a forecast, not a sale price or guarantee for a used Model 3. KBB also projected that the average 2026 model-year vehicle would retain about 45% of its original value after five years.
- CarEdge’s brand-wide estimate: CarEdge lists average five-year depreciation of 61% for new Tesla vehicles and notes that individual outcomes can vary significantly. This is a broad brand-level estimate, not a directly comparable result to iSeeCars’ model-specific study.
KBB’s projection and iSeeCars’ used-car analysis answer related but distinct questions: what a new model-year vehicle might be worth in the future versus how five-year-old vehicles performed in a recent sales sample. KBB’s award details are in its 2026 Best Resale Value announcement; CarEdge’s separate estimate appears on its Tesla depreciation page.

How to get a realistic estimate for your car
- Identify the exact vehicle. Record the model year, trim, configuration, mileage, condition, and title or accident history.
- Choose the transaction you mean. Private-party asking prices, dealer trade-in offers, and auction values are different measures; compare like with like.
- Check current values using the vehicle details and location. A current valuation is more actionable than multiplying a general retention percentage by the price you remember paying.
- Compare similar listings carefully. Listings show asking prices, not completed-sale prices or guaranteed offers. Use them as context alongside a valuation based on your car’s specifics.
