In May 2024, WeWork told GeekWire that it planned to keep five more coworking locations in the Seattle area: three in Seattle and two in Bellevue. The plan was part of the company’s Chapter 11 restructuring. It was a plan to assume those leases, not a finished outcome for each building, and the 2024 reporting does not settle what happened at every site. This article explains which buildings were named, what “lease assumption” required, and what WeWork’s current Seattle-area listings show as of October 8, 2026.
Which five locations WeWork planned to keep
GeekWire’s May 20, 2024 report, by Kurt Schlosser, named five sites. Three are Seattle properties and two are in Bellevue. The report said these five additions brought WeWork’s Seattle-area total to ten locations. The table below sets the 2024 plan against WeWork’s current Seattle-area coworking page, which was accessed on October 8, 2026.
| Location | City | Status reported in May 2024 | Listed on WeWork’s Seattle-area page (accessed October 8, 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Holyoke Building | Seattle | Planned lease assumption | Yes |
| Hawk Tower | Seattle | Planned lease assumption | Yes |
| 1201 3rd Ave. | Seattle | Planned lease assumption | Yes |
| Bellevue Place | Bellevue | Planned lease assumption | Yes |
| Lincoln Square | Bellevue | Planned lease assumption | Not listed. The page does not explain the omission, and this article cannot confirm whether the site is still operating. |
What the May 2024 report said about the wider restructuring
The five Seattle-area plans were described as part of WeWork’s worldwide lease renegotiations during its bankruptcy-related restructuring. GeekWire attributed two company-level figures to WeWork in that report:
- The company said it had determined a path forward for over 97% of its global, wholly owned lease portfolio.
- It said total rent commitments had been reduced by over $11 billion.
Both figures are historical company statements from May 2024. They describe the restructuring as it stood then, and they are not a current measurement of WeWork’s finances or real estate.

What “lease assumption” required
An April 2024 GeekWire report, which also covered WeWork’s bankruptcy process, explained that a lease assumption was not a unilateral decision. It involved negotiating with the landlord and filing a motion with the court, and the report said assumptions were subject to court approval. In practice, the process ran in this order:
- WeWork negotiated new terms with the landlord for a given building.
- WeWork filed a motion asking the bankruptcy court to approve assuming the lease on those terms.
- The lease was assumed only once the court approved the motion.
That sequence is why the May 2024 announcement should be read as a plan in an active bankruptcy case. The reporting establishes what WeWork intended to do and that court approval was required. It does not, on its own, show the final court disposition or present lease status for each of the five buildings.

The Ballard example from April 2024
GeekWire’s April 2024 coverage offers a parallel case. WeWork was seeking new terms to stay at its Ballard location at 1448 NW Market St. The same report said the company had assumed 40 leases across its portfolio by April 22, 2024. Peter Greenspan, WeWork’s global head of real estate, explained the Ballard decision this way:
“It has recently seen an increase in demand from hybrid workers who are looking for workplaces closer to their homes,”

Where the Seattle-area footprint stands on WeWork’s current page
WeWork’s official Seattle coworking page, accessed on October 8, 2026, lists six Seattle-area locations: Holyoke Building, 1448 NW Market St., 1201 3rd Ave., Hawk Tower, Sunset North, and Bellevue Place. Four of the five 2024 sites appear on it. Lincoln Square does not. The page is a snapshot of WeWork’s marketing and is not a legal record of lease status, so a listing alone does not confirm that any building’s lease was assumed under a particular court order.
The page offers day passes, monthly coworking memberships, dedicated desks, private offices and meeting rooms. It lists high-speed Wi-Fi, meeting rooms, onsite staff, cleaning, common areas, phone booths, printers and office supplies, and community events among its amenities. The prices below were displayed on the same page and are accessed-snapshot figures. The page notes that price conditions and membership options vary, so these are not guaranteed or universal rates.

Market context: WeWork’s own study of coworking footprints
A June 22, 2026 Connect CRE article by Jasmine Kilman summarized a WeWork study covering 20 U.S. metros and more than 42,000 companies, tracked from 2023 through April 2026. The article’s Seattle figures came from that company-run study, not from an independent census of the market:
- The Seattle coworking market had 149 locations and about 3 million square feet of space.
- Ten locations were added year over year, a 7% increase.
- WeWork’s six locations accounted for 290,000 square feet, or 10% of Seattle-area coworking space, which ranked the metro fifth among the metros analyzed.
Because these numbers come from a company study, treat them as WeWork’s view of the market rather than neutral market data.
What this means if you are choosing a Seattle coworking space
The 2024 plan matters to a business or freelancer only if it affects the building you are considering. Before you sign, check the following:
- Confirm that the exact building you want appears on the operator’s current location page, and check its address, since the Seattle and Bellevue sites above are listed separately.
- Ask whether the membership price is a promotional rate and, if so, how long it lasts and what it rises to.
- Compare access formats by how often you need a seat. A day pass priced at $39 or $49 may cost more over a month than a monthly membership, so calculate the break-even on your own schedule.
- Ask about term length, notice periods and cancellation terms in writing, since the public page notes that price conditions and membership options vary.
- If a location is missing from the listing or its status is unclear, ask the operator directly before you pay a deposit or sign a contract.
These checks apply to any coworking operator, not only WeWork, because a bankruptcy-era lease decision can change what a building offers and for how long.
