Online applications under Advertisement No. 13/2023 ran from 8 December 2023 and closed on 29 December 2023 at 3:00 p.m. No application link from that window can be used now, so the “deadline soon” framing in the headline no longer applies. This article sets out the dates and eligibility rules from the official 2023 advertisement, explains the application rules that tripped up candidates, and points you to the official WBPSC pages where later notices appear.
Status: registration closed
The application window for the Clerkship Examination 2023 has ended. The Public Service Commission, West Bengal (WBPSC) published the detailed advertisement on 4 December 2023, and the online application and fee deadlines have since passed. If you are reading this in or after October 2026, you cannot register for this recruitment through any link, including the one that may still circulate with the original headline.

Posts and eligibility in the 2023 notice
Advertisement No. 13/2023 covered recruitment to lower division assistant (LDA), lower division clerk (LDC) and similar posts in West Bengal government secretariats, directorates, district offices and regional offices. The notice said the number of vacancies would be announced later, so the advertisement itself did not fix a headcount.
- Educational qualification: Madhyamik pass from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, or an equivalent qualification.
- Computer knowledge: elementary computer operation.
- Typing speed: 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali.
- Age: 18 to 40 years as on 1 January 2023, with relaxations for specified categories.
- Reservation: the notice states that some reservation benefits apply only to West Bengal candidates. Check the category and certificate rules in the original advertisement before drawing conclusions about your own eligibility.
Exam pattern
The 2023 recruitment had two written parts, followed by a computer and typing test for candidates who qualified in both.
Rank #2
| Component | Subjects and marks | Total marks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part I (objective, MCQ) | 100 questions: English 30, General Studies 40, Arithmetic 30 | 100 | 90 minutes |
| Part II (conventional written) | English (50 marks) plus one language from Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Nepali or Santali (50 marks) | 100 | One hour (per the advertisement) |
| Computer operation and typing | Assessed after qualifying in Parts I and II | Not stated in the summary | Not stated in the summary |
The advertisement deducted 0.25 mark for each wrong answer in Part I. Those figures apply to the 2023 cycle only. A later recruitment may use a different pattern, so check that cycle’s notice before you prepare.
Application rules that caught candidates out
The Commission imposed strict rules on the online form, and they are worth knowing if a future cycle uses the same process.
Rank #3
- Applications were online only. Candidates had to register afresh on the Commission website, even if they had enrolled there before.
- One application per candidate. The notice warned against submitting more than one application.
- No edits after submission. The advertisement states: “There shall be no ‘Edit Window’ after closure of online submission of application.” It also warns that once the “Final Submission” button is clicked, the system will not allow editing and no correction request will be entertained. This is the Commission’s own wording.
Before clicking Final Submission, check the name, date of birth, qualification, category and contact details against your certificates. A mistake at that step could not be fixed through the portal.
