Searches that describe this as a newly released notification are picking up a 2024 document, so the dates in the notice matter more than the headline wording.

How 3,734 became 3,954
The original applicant information listed 3,734 vacancies and described the total as provisional and subject to marginal changes. A later WBPRB revised-vacancy notice changed the split between the two post types.

Two similarly named drives
Headlines that begin with “WB Police” can blur two separate recruitment drives. The Kolkata Police drive above covered both Constable and Lady Constable posts. The West Bengal Police Constable 2024 drive, also run through WBPRB, covered Constable posts only.

Eligibility under the Kolkata Police notice
The following requirements come from the 2024 Kolkata Police notice. Category-specific certificate, service and physical rules are set out in the official applicant information, so verify your own category there before relying on any summary.
- Age: 18 to 30 years as on 1 January 2024, with relaxations for specified categories and service groups.
- Education: Madhyamik from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, or an equivalent qualification.
- Language: Ability to speak, read and write Bengali. Permanent residents of the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hill subdivisions are referred to the provisions of the West Bengal Official Language Act, 1961 instead of this requirement.
Selection stages
The Kolkata Police recruitment followed five stages, in this order:
- Preliminary written screening test
- Physical Measurement Test (PMT)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Final written examination
- Interview
Preliminary written test
The screening test had 100 objective questions to be answered in one hour. Each wrong answer deducts one-quarter of the marks allotted to that question. Preliminary marks were not used to prepare the final merit list.

Final written examination and interview
The final written examination carried 85 marks, with the same one-quarter deduction for each incorrect answer. The interview carried 15 marks. The final merit list was built from the written and interview marks, which together make 100. PMT and PET were qualifying rounds and did not add to the merit score.

Physical standards
Height and weight requirements differ by gender and category, so use the table in the official applicant information for your own group. The running events in the notice were:

The official warning about touts
The notice states: “The selection process by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board is transparent and purely merit-based.”
It also warns: “Hence, the applicants are advised to beware of the unscrupulous elements, racketeers, touts who may misguide the candidates with false promises of getting them selected for the job on illegal consideration.”
Anyone offering to guarantee a place for payment is operating against the process WBPRB describes. Report such offers to the board rather than paying.
