No verified evidence shows that a Cash App glitch let people get free money through Apple Pay. A 2023 video summary described that allegation, but did not prove it worked. Separately, Cash App documented an Apple Pay add-money service issue in September and October 2026; its status update said most customers could add money normally again by October 5. That incident is not evidence of a free-money exploit.
What the “free money” claim says—and what is verified
A PiunikaWeb video summary dated September 8, 2023, described an alleged Cash App glitch involving Apple Pay and DoorDash that supposedly let users obtain free money and food. The summary documents that the claim circulated; it does not demonstrate that the alleged exploit worked. No official source or technical account cited here confirms a mechanism for generating free money.

Cash App’s ordinary payment features are not proof of the claim. Its sending guide says people without Cash App can pay a payment-request link using Apple Pay or Google Pay. That is a payment option, not evidence of a way to create money.
The separate Apple Pay add-money issue in 2026
Cash App’s status history records an “Apple Pay – Add Money Issue” under investigation beginning September 26, 2026. On October 5, the company said adding money with Apple Pay was working normally again for most customers, while a small number of attempts might still fail. It advised affected customers to wait and retry or add money using another debit card or linked bank account.

This was a service-status incident about adding money. The status record does not say it created free money, and it should not be confused with the 2023 viral allegation.
How to respond to a suspicious “free money” offer
- Do not try to reproduce a supposed glitch. Treat promises of free money or money multiplication as a warning sign, especially if someone pressures you to act quickly.
- Never share sign-in codes or personal information. Cash App identifies unsolicited support messages and requests for account codes as scam signals.
- Check payments inside the app. Do not rely on screenshots, texts, or messages as proof that money arrived.
- Do not send a stranger money back based only on their claim of a mistaken payment. Cash App’s terms say it may reverse a payment it believes should not have been made, including one involving fraud. The terms also say it is not required to stop or recover a misdirected payment instruction.
If you sent money or shared account information
- Stop communicating with the suspected scammer.
- Report the payment through Cash App. Use the app’s reporting process and keep the transaction details.
- Contact your bank or other financial institution promptly. Explain what happened and ask what steps it can take to secure the account or address the transaction.
- Preserve evidence. Save messages, receipts, and screenshots related to the interaction.
- Change exposed passwords and monitor your accounts. Watch for unauthorized activity, and file a report with the FTC.
Cash App says completed, authorized peer-to-peer payments are generally difficult to reverse, and reimbursement is not guaranteed. Report the incident promptly, but do not assume a refund is certain.

Keep unrelated consumer-protection news in context
In July 2026, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General announced a $45 million multistate settlement with Block concerning allegations about Cash App user protections and fraud-dispute practices. That settlement is a separate consumer-protection matter; it does not verify the alleged free-money glitch.
