Although Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said on September 29, 2025 that the Tax Year 2025 income tax return deadline would not be extended beyond September 30, it later extended the general deadline twice. The final date in the FBR notices was October 31, 2025. These are historical dates for Tax Year 2025, not deadlines for a later tax year.

What the September 29 statement meant
On September 29, FBR rejected reports of a planned general extension and said: “FBR categorically clarifies that these reports are false, baseless, and misleading as the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025 will not be extended.” That was FBR’s position on that date, not the final outcome: the subsequent notices changed the general deadline.
The hardship route mentioned in the September 29 statement was distinct from those later general extensions. It allowed taxpayers facing extreme hardship to apply for up to 15 additional days, subject to relevant committee approval and payment of due taxes by September 30. It should not be mistaken for the general extension that FBR announced on September 30.
Who the dates applied to
FBR’s specific Tax Year 2025 extension notices set out the dates relevant to that filing cycle. Separately, FBR’s general due-date guidance lists individuals and associations of persons (AOPs) as due on or before September 30, companies on or before December 31, and companies with a special tax year on or before September 30. That general table is not a substitute for the specific TY2025 extension notices. Checking a deadline for another tax year
The October 31, 2025 date is for Tax Year 2025. Do not carry it forward to a later tax year: verify the current deadline against FBR’s latest notice and its press-release archive.
