Visa reported $11.6 billion in fiscal third-quarter 2026 revenue on July 28, up 14% year over year, and diluted earnings per share of $2.97 under GAAP and $3.32 on a non-GAAP basis. The company also reported growth in payment activity. But the available earnings release does not establish that results beat analyst estimates, and Visa’s $20 billion share-repurchase authorization was announced in April—not as a $20 billion purchase in Q3.
What Visa reported for fiscal Q3 2026
Visa’s fiscal third quarter ended June 30, 2026. In its July 28 earnings release, the company reported net revenue of $11.6 billion, a 14% increase from a year earlier. Did Visa beat analyst estimates, and did the stock jump?
The reported revenue and EPS figures are actual results, but Visa’s earnings release does not identify an analyst consensus estimate. The available evidence therefore does not verify an earnings “beat.” It also does not establish a stock-price jump or its size: that claim requires a dated price source and a defined comparison window, neither of which is available here.

That distinction matters because a company can report strong growth without the figures alone showing whether it exceeded market expectations. A claim about a share-price reaction should specify the period being compared—for example, the change from the prior close to a particular post-release close—and cite a source for those prices.
What Visa’s $20 billion repurchase authorization means
Visa announced a new $20.0 billion multi-year Class A share-repurchase authorization on April 28, 2026, alongside its fiscal Q2 results. In the three months ended June 30, Visa repurchased about 14.5 million Class A shares for $4.9 billion. Separately, its Form 10-Q reported $28.4 billion in remaining authorized funds across all of the company’s repurchase programs as of June 30. What Visa’s payment figures say about spending
For the three months ended June 30, 2026, Visa reported constant-dollar payments-volume growth of 10%, total cross-border-volume growth of 13%, and 71.7 billion processed transactions, up 10% year over year. These figures reflect activity on Visa’s network, not a complete measure of consumer spending across the economy. Volume growth and transaction counts are also different measures: one tracks payment value, while the other counts processed transactions.

The Q2 earnings-call transcript provides a separate interim snapshot for the United States: through April 21, 2026, Visa said U.S. payments volume was up 9% year over year in constant dollars, with credit volume up 10% and debit volume up 8%. Together, the company’s figures support a description of growing activity on its payment network during the periods measured. They do not establish a broad “credit card culture boom,” nor do they show that all consumer spending is increasing at the same rate.

How to interpret management’s resilience claim
Visa CEO Ryan McInerney described consumer and business spending as resilient in the company’s July 28 release, saying Visa delivered Q3 revenue growth of 14%, GAAP EPS growth of 10%, and non-GAAP EPS growth of 11%. That is management’s characterization of the quarter, supported by Visa’s reported results but not an independent measure of overall consumer finances or spending across the economy.

For context, McInerney said in Visa’s April 28 Q2 release that Q2 revenue grew 17%, the highest rate since 2022, with GAAP EPS up 36% and non-GAAP EPS up 20%. Those are Q2 figures, not Q3 results. The difference in quarter and period is important when comparing the company’s performance over time.
