An old Polaroid is worth what a buyer will pay for that exact model, in that condition, on the open market. For the one model with a published aggregate price, the SX-70, recorded sales have a median of about £80, but that figure spans 2008 to 2026 and says nothing about other models. Most owners get a useful answer in three steps: identify the camera, describe its working condition honestly, and check completed sales for that specific model.
Identify the camera before you look for a price
“Old Polaroid” covers several unrelated product lines that use different film, so a price for one line will mislead for another. Start here:
- Photograph the front, back, underside, lens, and any model markings or serial number.
- Note whether the camera folds, whether it has a built-in flash, and whether the flash is removable.
- Match the film the camera takes to the product line in the table below.
Do not identify a camera by its rainbow stripe or general look alone, because several models share a similar appearance.
Polaroid Support’s film-format page, last updated October 29, 2024, lists Go, 600, i-Type, SX-70, and 8×10 integral film as formats then in production. It lists peel-apart, roll film, Image/Spectra, and 500 film as unsupported by Polaroid at that time. Check Polaroid’s current support before relying on the table, because availability changes.

| Camera family | Film it takes | Polaroid support status (page updated October 29, 2024) |
|---|---|---|
| SX-70 folding camera | SX-70 integral film | Listed as produced |
| 600 cameras | 600 integral film | Listed as produced |
| Go | Go integral film | Listed as produced |
| i-Type | i-Type film | Listed as produced |
| Pack-film Land Camera | Peel-apart pack film | Listed as unsupported |
| Spectra / Image | Image/Spectra film | Listed as unsupported |
| Roll-film cameras | Roll film | Listed as unsupported |
Unsupported film does not reduce a camera’s collector value to zero. It does limit how easily an owner can test or use the camera.
What the £80 SX-70 figure measures
CameraWorth’s SX-70 page reports a median of £80 across 31 recorded sales from 2008 to 2026, with the middle half of sales falling between £53 and £115. Its 18 sales from the last three years had a median of £65, which is below the full-period figure. The page also lists recent examples from March and April 2026 at £80 and £35. Its methodology notes that auction hammer prices may exclude buyer’s commission, so a figure based on hammer prices can sit below the total a buyer paid.

- Wearable and take anywhere-able: As the Polaroid’s smallest instant camera, the Polaroid Go fits in almost every bag, tote, pocket and pack. So you can capture real life wherever, whenever.
- Takes clearer, brighter, even nicer pictures: Thanks to the large aperture range, precise light sensor and on-point-exposure settings, the Polaroid Go Generation 2 image quality is better than ever.
- Built-in selfie mirror: Say cheese to yourself in the Polaroid Go’s reflective viewfinder – aka ‘selfie mirror’.
- Double-exposure and self-timer modes: Take photos so nice you shot them twice with double-exposure mode. Or set up the perfect self-portrait with the touch of the self timer button.
- Shoots pocketable Polaroid Go film and shoots 15 film packs with a single charge.
Treat this as a starting reference, not an appraisal. It covers only the SX-70, combines a long period with mixed conditions, and is reported in pounds sterling. No authoritative average exists for Polaroid cameras as a whole, so any single “typical old Polaroid” value would be misleading.
Rare editions and special lots sit far above ordinary sales
Rare, decorated, or complete examples can sell for several times the SX-70 median. The lots below are individual realized prices reported by Catawiki and Dorotheum. They are selected results, not averages, and they do not guarantee what a similar camera will fetch.

Grade the condition honestly
Buyers price a working camera differently from an untested one. Label your camera with one of these four categories:
Rank #4

- Tested working: you have fired it with compatible film and it produced usable images.
- Partly working: it opens, closes, and fires, but has a defect such as sticky rollers or an unreliable function.
- Untested: you lack compatible film or have not run it. Compare it only with other untested or as-is sales, not with restored examples.
- For parts: you do not expect it to work.
Record whether the camera opens and closes fully, whether the lens and viewfinder are clear, whether the bellows are intact, and whether you can see battery corrosion, sticky rollers, mold, cracks, or missing parts. Do not call a camera tested unless it has been run with appropriate film.
List each item separately: case, strap, flash, original box, manual, other accessories, and any film. Expired film is not a value add, since its usability is uncertain. Original packaging and paperwork can help a sale, as Catawiki notes in describing what matters to buyers, but no published source establishes a fixed premium for them.

How to price it from completed sales
- Search the exact model and variant, not “old Polaroid.”
- Filter for sold or completed listings, and ignore active asking prices, which are sellers’ hopes rather than results.
- Pull several recent sales of the same model. A cluster of close matches tells you more than one striking result.
- Match condition, tested status, accessories, and bundle contents. Exclude special editions and bundles unless yours matches them.
- Confirm the currency and market. Convert the figures into your own currency, and subtract shipping, platform fees, and any auction premium to estimate what you will actually keep.
Where to sell
Polaroid Support, updated June 25, 2025, states that the company cannot buy used Polaroid cameras directly from customers or accept donations. It recommends eBay, Depop, or Etsy, and its support page names Retrospekt as a camera buyer. Catawiki runs curated auctions and offers a seller valuation route for collectible items. Confirm current acceptance, fees, and terms with each buyer before you ship.
