Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete, not merely a potential bid. The English Football League said on 2 May 2026 that an agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC had been concluded; the joint administrators confirmed completion on 5 May. The change of ownership ends Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership, but it does not reverse the club’s relegation or remove the EFL’s two-season budget and registration conditions.
Has the Sheffield Wednesday takeover been completed?
Yes. The EFL said on 2 May 2026 that it had received confirmation from the joint administrators that an agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC had been concluded. The administrators, BTG, published their completion confirmation on 5 May. EFL statement, 2 May 2026; BTG completion notice, 5 May 2026.
The BBC independently reported the completed acquisition and said it ended Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership. There is no current rival bid in the cited reports; the transaction is reported as completed. BBC Sport, 2 May 2026.
Who owns Sheffield Wednesday now?
The buyer is Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin, according to the EFL and BTG. The available statements identify the buyer and its named principals but do not set out the detailed sale terms or a full ownership breakdown. EFL; BTG.

Will Sheffield Wednesday start the upcoming season with a points deduction?
The EFL said it would not impose a further 15-point deduction after the club exited administration for league purposes. BTG said the club would begin the upcoming season on zero points. These are distinct from the earlier deduction: on 24 October 2025, the EFL said entry into administration triggered an automatic 12-point deduction under league regulations. EFL, 2 May 2026; BTG, 5 May 2026; EFL, 24 October 2025.
What does the takeover mean for transfers and the budget?
The change of ownership does not mean unrestricted spending or registration. The EFL said a budget restriction would apply for the next two seasons. Sheffield Wednesday can sign players, but registration applications must comply with a business plan agreed between the new ownership and the EFL. BTG described agreed wage and transfer parameters. The published statements do not give the financial limits or detailed terms of that plan. EFL, 2 May 2026; BTG, 5 May 2026.

What division will Sheffield Wednesday play in?
The sale did not undo the club’s relegation. BBC Sport reported that Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat at Sheffield United on 22 February 2026 had already confirmed relegation to League One, with 13 games remaining. The takeover changed ownership and league-administration status, not that sporting outcome. BBC Sport, 2 May 2026.

There is a distinction between the EFL’s league-status statement and filings for a legal company. The EFL said in May 2026 that the club was no longer regarded as in administration for league purposes after the transaction. Companies House’ filing history for SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED subsequently lists an administrator progress report filed on 2 June 2026, a creditors’ meeting result filed on 16 July, and an administration-period extension filed on 30 August. The filing history does not explain how those records relate to the EFL’s description or establish the status of each entity after the asset sale. The two sources describe different records, and the filings alone do not establish that the EFL’s league-status statement is wrong.
