Conor McGregor is the clearest documented UFC fighter above $20 million in a published career-compensation compilation—but that figure is partial, not an audited measure of everything he earned. Money MMA listed him at $25,302,000 through UFC 278, counting disclosed purses, end-of-night bonuses and Reebok/Venum sponsorship pay while excluding undisclosed bonuses and pay-per-view earnings. Its compilation flags some components as estimates. The available evidence does not establish a definitive all-time list of fighters whose total income from every source exceeded $20 million.
Who is documented above $20 million?
Under Money MMA’s stated partial-compensation method, Conor McGregor is the documented case: the publication listed his total at $25,302,000 through UFC 278. That figure is not a complete career-income ledger. It excludes undisclosed bonuses and pay-per-view earnings, and some components are estimated. It should be described as a sourced compilation total, not audited lifetime income. Money MMA’s UFC career earnings compilation was updated August 31, 2022.

The same compilation lists Khabib Nurmagomedov at $14,770,200 through UFC 278 using the same partial method. That figure does not establish that his all-source lifetime earnings were below $20 million; excluded categories could materially change the total. Nor does the evidence establish an exhaustive list of every fighter who crossed the threshold.
Why “career earnings” can mean different things
A fighter’s disclosed event purse is only one measure. A compensation compilation may add disclosed bonuses and certain sponsorship payments; an all-source career total might also include undisclosed pay-per-view compensation, endorsements, or income from businesses outside fighting. These categories have different scopes and often cannot be compared directly.

- Fight your story: new immersive modes add narrative depth, making every bout feel personal and driven by your choices.
- Disclosed event purse: a reported payment for a particular fight, not necessarily the fighter’s full compensation for that event.
- Partial career compilation: a sum of selected disclosed or estimated UFC-related compensation categories, limited by the compiler’s method and cutoff.
- Annual athlete-earnings estimate: income attributed to a particular year, potentially combining fight pay and endorsements. It is not a career total.
- All-source lifetime income: a broad total that could include fight compensation, endorsements and outside business income; the reviewed evidence does not provide a verified ledger of this kind for UFC fighters.
McGregor’s reported figures are not interchangeable
Several widely cited McGregor figures refer to different periods and kinds of income. They should not be added together or treated as competing estimates of the same career total.
| Figure | What it measures | Scope and source |
|---|---|---|
| $25,302,000 | Listed UFC career-compensation total | Money MMA’s compilation through UFC 278; includes disclosed purses, end-of-night bonuses and Reebok/Venum sponsorship pay, excludes undisclosed bonuses and pay-per-view earnings, and flags some components as estimates. Source. |
| $22 million | Estimated annual athlete earnings in 2016 | Forbes reported approximately $18 million in salary and winnings and approximately $4 million in endorsements. This is a one-year estimate, not a career total. Source. |
| $47 million | Estimated earnings over the prior year, as reported in 2019 | MMA Fighting reported Forbes’s estimate as $32 million in fight purses and $15 million in endorsements. It includes more than UFC career-purse disclosures and should not be added to other estimates without accounting for overlap. Source. |
UFC 229 shows the gap between a purse and total event earnings
For UFC 229, the Nevada Athletic Commission’s disclosed purses, reported by MMA Fighting in October 2018, were $3 million for McGregor and $2 million for Nurmagomedov. Those were event purses—not complete event earnings or take-home pay. The report notes that the figures omit some sponsorship income, pay-per-view earnings and discretionary bonuses. MMA Fighting summarized the limitation directly: “As always, these figures do not represent a fighter’s total earnings, as certain sponsorship incomes, pay-per-view earnings or discretionary bonuses are not publicly disclosed.” Read the UFC 229 purse report.

Can we name every UFC fighter who earned over $20 million?
No definitive all-time list is established by the available figures. The clearest sourced answer is that McGregor exceeded $20 million in Money MMA’s partial UFC compensation compilation through UFC 278. The compilation’s exclusions mean it cannot establish all-source lifetime earnings, while its $14,770,200 figure for Nurmagomedov cannot prove he stayed under the threshold. The newest career compilation located was updated in 2022, so it also does not provide a current, exhaustive accounting.
When evaluating another claimed total, check the categories included, the time period and cutoff, whether the number is disclosed or estimated, and whether it covers UFC pay alone or other income. A threshold claim is only as meaningful as that scope.
