The 2022 UFC betting controversy centered on unusual wagers placed before Darrick Minner fought Shayilan Nuerdanbieke on November 5. Those wagers, reports of a possible injury, and subsequent regulatory action prompted investigations—but the available evidence does not establish that the bout was fixed or confirm a final outcome for the broader investigations.
What happened in the Minner–Nuerdanbieke fight?
The bout took place at UFC Fight Night 214 in Las Vegas on November 5, 2022. In testimony to the New York State Senate, betting monitor U.S. Integrity reported abnormal one-sided betting on Nuerdanbieke, including wagers on him to win by first-round knockout and on the total fight duration being under 2.5 rounds. U.S. Integrity issued an incident alert to operators at 3:27 p.m. Pacific time. New York State Senate testimony

The testimony also says rumors of a Minner leg injury circulated hours before the fight. During the bout, Minner appeared to injure his leg and lost by first-round technical knockout. The timing and overlap between the rumor, the wagers, and what happened in the cage help explain why the activity drew scrutiny. They do not, on their own, establish who knew what, whether anyone acted improperly, or whether the outcome had been arranged.
What do the betting figures show?
The Senate testimony reported that, across the listed wagers at Caesars New York, the total handle was $73,798. One patron accounted for $65,770, or 89.12% of that listed total. The testimony said that patron had made 31 lifetime bets at Caesars, 19 of them on UFC, and had not previously placed any of their prior 12 wagers above $1,000. New York State Senate testimony

These figures describe one operator’s reported activity on the listed wagers—not betting across the market. A large or unusual wager can be a signal for review, but the amount alone does not prove that the bettor had inside information or that a fight was fixed.
What did the UFC say and do?
In a statement dated December 2, 2022, the UFC said it had been informed that suspicious betting patterns were observed on the fight and was cooperating with multiple ongoing government investigations. The organization wrote: “Following the fight involving Darrick Minner on November 5, 2022, UFC was informed by sources that suspicious betting patterns had been observed on the fight.” That statement describes what the UFC said it had been told; it is not a finding that the bout was fixed. The UFC said the Nevada State Athletic Commission had informed it on November 18 that coach James Krause’s license was suspended during the commission’s investigation. It also said it would bar fighters who continued to be coached by Krause or trained at his gym from participating in UFC events while government investigations were pending, and that it had released Minner. Later, the UFC announced an agreement with U.S. Integrity for betting monitoring and said it had enhanced its Athlete Conduct Policy to make clear that athletes could not wager on UFC matches, directly or through a third party. These were monitoring and policy responses; they do not settle the allegations about any individual or bout. UFC announcement on U.S. Integrity and betting policy
What regulatory action was reported?
Contemporaneous reporting on a Nevada proceeding in December 2022 described temporary suspensions of Krause and Minner concerning alleged failure to report Minner’s injury. The same report said the broader betting investigation remained ongoing. In January 2023, separate reporting said Nevada had suspended Jeff Molina and that the UFC would not book him while investigations continued. These reports are snapshots of procedural action at the time, not final adjudications. MMA Fighting, December 2022 MMA Fighting, January 2023

An alleged failure to disclose an injury is a different issue from arranging a fight’s result. The reported commission actions should not be treated as proof of match-fixing.

No. The FBI describes game manipulation, also called match-fixing, as “the act of arranging the outcome or specific play of a competition prior to the event taking place.” FBI guidance on game manipulation
Suspicious betting, an injury rumor, and an injury during a bout can warrant investigation. None of those facts alone shows that someone arranged the fight’s outcome or a specific play in advance. The available material documents unusual betting and investigations; it does not establish that Minner–Nuerdanbieke was fixed.

What is known about the investigations now?
The sources cited here do not establish the final disposition of the government investigations or Nevada proceedings as of October 8, 2026. Without a newer authoritative record, it would be inaccurate to say that the FBI cleared or charged anyone, or that the matter reached a final finding.
