How does September fit the broader 2024 trend?
The report says each month in 2024 through September was below the 2019–2023 five-year average for overall tractor and combine sales. It does not give the average or the size of each monthly gap, so the comparison establishes a persistent shortfall without quantifying it.
AEM senior vice president Curt Blades described the pattern as a cyclical slowdown after the summer and said the declines pointed to “the overall softness in the ag economy.” That is AEM’s interpretation of the figures; the report does not establish a specific cause, such as crop prices, financing costs, inventory decisions, or local market conditions.
