Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. (TMTG), the parent company that operates Truth Social, reported a $327.6 million GAAP net loss for the three months ended March 31, 2024. The result was announced on May 20, 2024. It was a consolidated parent-company loss—not a separate financial statement showing that Truth Social alone lost that amount, and not a current-quarter result.
What TMTG reported for the first quarter of 2024
TMTG’s SEC filing reported $770,500 in revenue for the quarter ended March 31, 2024, compared with $1,116,200 in the same quarter of 2023. The company said the revenue was largely generated by its early-stage advertising initiative and that a change in its revenue share with one advertising partner contributed significantly to the year-over-year decline. These figures are reported in the company’s Form 10-Q.
| Measure | Three months ended March 31, 2024 | Comparison period |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $770,500 | $1,116,200 in Q1 2023 |
| Operating loss, GAAP | $98.353 million | Not stated here |
| Net loss, GAAP | $327.600 million | $210.300 million in Q1 2023 |
| Adjusted EBITDA operating loss, non-GAAP | $12.1 million | Not stated here |
The GAAP figures come from the 10-Q; the non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA figure comes from TMTG’s May 20, 2024 earnings release. Adjusted EBITDA is a company-defined measure and is not interchangeable with the GAAP operating loss or net loss.
Why the net loss was so much larger than revenue
The $327.6 million headline is a GAAP net-loss figure, not a tally of cash spent on Truth Social’s day-to-day operations. TMTG’s 10-Q reported $99.030 million in total costs and operating expenses and a separate $225.916 million loss from a change in the fair value of derivative liabilities. A fair-value loss is an accounting adjustment; it should not be described as an equivalent cash payment.

In its earnings release, TMTG attributed $311.0 million of noncash expenses to the conversion of promissory notes and the associated elimination of prior liabilities immediately before the merger closed on March 25, 2024. The company said those expenses resulted in the GAAP loss. The $311.0 million is the company’s explanation of noncash items, while the 10-Q’s line items provide separate accounting detail; these amounts should not be added together as though they were distinct costs that neatly sum to the net loss.
Stock-based compensation also affected the quarter
The 10-Q recorded $84.588 million in stock-based compensation expense: $54.446 million within general and administrative expense and $30.143 million within research and development. TMTG attributed the general and administrative amount to promissory notes issued to executives and a consultant that converted into shares. It attributed the research and development amount to vendor notes connected with development of a planned streaming platform.

What the headline does—and does not—say
- It is TMTG’s consolidated result. The filing covers the parent company. It does not establish a standalone net loss for Truth Social as a platform.
- It is not the same as cash burn. Net loss includes noncash accounting items, including the derivative fair-value effect and stock-based compensation disclosed for this period.
- It is not the operating loss. TMTG reported a $98.353 million GAAP operating loss as well as the larger $327.600 million GAAP net loss. The company separately reported a $12.1 million non-GAAP Adjusted EBITDA operating loss in its release.
- It is historical. The period ended March 31, 2024, and TMTG announced results on May 20, 2024. “This quarter” in the original headline referred to that news cycle.
What TMTG said about its finances and strategy
TMTG described its advertising initiative as early-stage and said it was selectively testing it, with revenue varying as those tests proceeded. In the May 20, 2024 release, CEO Devin Nunes characterized the post-merger company as well-capitalized and said it would focus on product development. Those are management’s statements, not independent assessments of the company’s financial condition.

TMTG’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 describes a broader business that includes Truth Social and Truth+, as well as Truth.Fi and a digital-asset strategy that includes a bitcoin treasury. That filing reports unaudited net sales of $1.670 million and a net loss of $238.111 million for the three months ended June 30, 2026. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, it reports unaudited net sales of $2.541 million and a net loss of $643.995 million. These are period-specific figures from a later filing and should not be treated as a direct continuation of the 2024 result without accounting for the company’s broader activities and changing accounting mix.
