Reuters reported that investors spent an estimated $148 million buying $TRUMP tokens to qualify for seats at Donald Trump’s May 22, 2025 dinner—not that guests paid $148 million in admission fees. The length of Trump’s remarks is also disputed: CNN’s transcript describes a 20-minute speech, while the Associated Press reported about half an hour based on attendees’ social-media posts.
What the $148 million figure measures
Reuters attributed the estimate to crypto intelligence firm Inca Digital. It represents estimated $TRUMP token purchases during the competition for dinner invitations. It is not a ticket price, a payment to the venue, or a statement that each guest spent the same amount. Reuters also reported Inca Digital’s estimate that the top 25 holders spent more than $111 million.
The invitation system tied access to token-holder rank. In an April 23 announcement, the $TRUMP website said the top 220 holders would be invited to a May 22 gala, with a VIP reception for the top 25. The event was held at Trump National Golf Club in Northern Virginia.
How long did Trump speak?
The headline’s 20-minute figure comes from CNN’s May 23 transcript, which describes Trump’s speech as lasting 20 minutes. The Associated Press reported that he spoke for about half an hour, drawing on social-media posts by participants. The accounts differ, so 20 minutes should be attributed to CNN rather than treated as a settled, independently verified duration.

Reuters reported several analytics-based estimates related to the token, which measure different things and should not be conflated with the $148 million in estimated purchases:
- Chainalysis estimated that a Trump-controlled company and another firm had earned a combined $320.19 million in fees, including at least $1.35 million after the dinner announcement.
- Inca Digital and Bubblemaps estimated that, as of May 8, 2025, more than 60 large wallets had profited close to $1.5 billion, while about 600,000 smaller wallets had lost $3.87 billion.
These are attributed estimates from analytics firms, not a complete accounting of every holder’s results or the dinner’s proceeds.

Why the event drew scrutiny
Senators and watchdogs raised concerns about conflicts of interest, foreign participation and the identities of attendees. Their letters, inquiries and records requests document public scrutiny; they do not establish that the dinner or token activity was unlawful.
Reuters quoted White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt saying the president’s assets were in a blind trust managed by his children and arguing that voters re-elected him in part because of his business success. Reuters also reported a video posted by a dinner guest in which Trump said, “I always put the country way ahead of the business” and described the administration as bringing crypto innovators back to the United States.

Who attended—and what remains unknown
The published invitation rules identify the top 220 holders as invitees, but the reporting cited here does not provide a complete, independently verified attendee roster. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington said many invitees remained anonymous and requested records from the Secret Service. That request is not proof that the records were released or that every attendee’s identity was concealed.
In the Associated Press account, crypto investor and Trump supporter Nic Carter called the arrangement “distasteful and an unnecessary distraction,” and said Trump was “hugging us to death” with his private crypto businesses. Those comments reflect Carter’s criticism, not a legal finding.
