Transcend announced a $40 million Series B on May 28, 2024, with StepStone Group leading the round. The company said the financing brought its total raised to nearly $90 million and would support its enterprise privacy and AI governance platform.

Who invested in Transcend’s Series B?

StepStone Group led the $40 million financing. HighlandX and existing investors Accel, Index Ventures, 01 Advisors (01A), Script Capital, and South Park Commons also participated, according to Transcend’s announcement. Axios independently reported the $40 million amount and StepStone’s role as lead investor in its May 28, 2024 coverage.

Transcend said the Series B brought its cumulative funding to nearly $90 million. That total is the company’s own figure; Axios confirmed the new round amount, not the cumulative total.

What was Transcend building?

At the time of the announcement, Transcend described its product as an enterprise suite for data privacy and AI governance. Its stated scope included:

  • Discovering and classifying data across company systems.
  • Managing consent and customer preferences.
  • Automating privacy workflows, including requests to access or delete personal data.

The company said it had expanded from consumer-facing data rights tools into enterprise privacy and AI governance products. These are descriptions of the platform’s intended capabilities, not independent findings about performance or effectiveness.

How did the company position itself in the market?

Transcend presented its approach as technical integration with the systems that process data, combined with automated workflows. CEO and co-founder Ben Brook told Axios that customers wanted privacy functions “under one roof” and technically connected to the systems handling data.

Axios framed Transcend as competing with legacy data privacy tools, including OneTrust. That is market context from Axios, not the result of a head-to-head product test. Transcend investor John Avirett, a StepStone Group partner, praised the company’s code-level approach and its work moving companies from legacy platforms and point solutions; his comments are an investor endorsement.

What the funding announcement does—and does not—establish

The announcement records a financing event in May 2024 and the company’s description of its strategy at that time. It does not establish Transcend’s current funding total, present-day product lineup, pricing, or company status. Transcend also cited a projected $30 billion global data privacy software market by 2030 and a 40% compound annual growth rate, but those were company-published estimates rather than independently validated market figures.

For personal-finance readers, the significance is mainly as a business funding story: investors backed software intended to help enterprises manage privacy-related data operations. The announcement does not provide evidence of consumer investment access, financial returns, or a publicly traded security.
