The gap between the two is nearly a factor of two. A 2024 Los Angeles Times profile reports that Kanal had shifted some of his focus toward composing for television and film, and it describes his work with composer Blake Neely. That profile is a snapshot of his activity at the time it was published. It does not describe his current income or assets.

How to read a celebrity net worth figure
When you see a number for a musician, check these points before relying on it:
- Publisher: Is it a general celebrity-estimate site or a news organization with an identified editorial process?
- Date: When was the figure published, and was it updated after the publisher’s last major change to its estimate?
- Method: Does the page explain how the total was reached, or does it only state a number?
- Corroboration: Is there a primary record, such as a court filing, a public company disclosure, or a statement from the person, that supports the figure?
- Agreement: Do other estimates land in the same range, and do they rely on the same underlying source?
For Kanal, the answer to the last three questions is the same: the estimates are undated beyond their publication year, unexplained, and not backed by a primary record. That is why the most accurate statement is that his net worth has not been verified.
