Tony Khan and Shane McMahon met at an Arlington, Texas, airport on July 29, 2024, and discussed possible next steps. But the meeting did not result in an announced AEW role or deal. Khan later said they spoke only once and that he did not think McMahon was especially interested in becoming an on-screen character.
When and where did Tony Khan and Shane McMahon meet?
WrestleTalk and Fightful reported on July 31, 2024, that Khan and McMahon met two days earlier in an office at a private airport in Arlington, Texas. Fightful reporter Sean Ross Sapp said sources confirmed the meeting. The reports described the conversation as involving “possibilities moving forward,” but did not establish that Khan made McMahon a formal offer.

What did Khan and McMahon say about the meeting?
Tony Khan’s August 2024 comments
On August 6, 2024, AEW president and CEO Tony Khan told Sedano & Kap that he and McMahon had not met before, that a mutual friend connected them, and that they were both in Dallas. Khan described the conversation positively: “I had a really nice talk and I really enjoyed visiting with him.” He added, “I don’t know what’s to come, but it’s an exciting time in AEW.” His remarks indicated interest in what might follow, not that an agreement had been reached.
Shane McMahon’s June 2025 comments
McMahon later confirmed that he had met with AEW in an interview with TMZ. WrestleTalk transcribed him as saying: “Had a meeting with AEW and wish them continued success but it’s not WWE, it’s not the company I helped build but you never know what’s going to happen in this business.” He did not announce that he had joined AEW or taken a role there.

Khan’s April 2026 account
Speaking on the Coach & Bro Show with Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo, Khan said McMahon contacted him to arrange the meeting, they talked for a few hours at the airport, and it was their only conversation. Khan also said: “I don’t think he went into it thinking, ‘I want to be a character on this guy’s show.’” In that interview, Khan did not describe McMahon as pursuing an on-screen wrestling-show role. The account reported that nothing further materialized.
Did Shane McMahon join AEW or receive an offer?
No AEW role or deal was announced in the accounts cited here, and they do not establish that Khan made a formal recruitment offer. A private discussion about possibilities—and Khan’s positive comments afterward—are not evidence that McMahon joined the company. McMahon’s own public confirmation was that he had a meeting with AEW; he did not announce a role.

What was reported about equity or control of AEW?
In February 2025, F4WOnline summarized claims made by Jonathan Coachman on a podcast and subsequent Fightful reporting. Coachman claimed McMahon sought equity and wanted to run AEW. F4W’s summary said Fightful’s sources could not verify the equity claim, while the claim that McMahon wanted to “run things” appeared accurate to those sources. The same summary attributed to sources the view that McMahon was unfamiliar with AEW’s product and business model. These are second-hand accounts of a private conversation, not publicly confirmed terms or an established offer.
