Through August 2026, Airbus had delivered 475 commercial aircraft—about 54.6% of its full-year target of around 870. With four months left, it would need 395 more deliveries, or roughly 99 a month, against an average of about 59 a month during January–August. That gap is concerning, but it is a pace comparison, not a prediction: deliveries do not occur evenly, and the latest monthly tally listed on Airbus’s official page as of 8 October was August.
How far behind pace is Airbus?
Airbus reported 57 commercial-aircraft deliveries in August, bringing its 2026 total through that month to 475. The company’s full-year target is around 870. The arithmetic below compares the reported total with that target; it does not assume deliveries are evenly distributed across the year.
| Measure | Figure | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 deliveries through August | 475 | Airbus’s cumulative commercial-aircraft deliveries, including 57 in August. Airbus monthly orders and deliveries |
| 2026 full-year target | Around 870 | Airbus’s commercial-aircraft delivery target. Airbus 2026 guidance |
| Share of target delivered by end-August | About 54.6% | Calculation: 475 divided by 870. |
| Deliveries still needed in September–December | 395 | Calculation against the approximate 870 target; about 99 per month over four months. |
| January–August monthly average | About 59 | Calculation: 475 deliveries divided by eight months. |
On that basis, Airbus would need a pace roughly two-thirds higher than its January–August monthly average for the rest of the year. That is a substantial acceleration. It is not proof the target will be missed: aircraft deliveries can be lumpy, and monthly totals can vary with production readiness, parts availability and customer handovers.
What changed over the year?
Q1 began behind the prior year
Airbus delivered 114 commercial aircraft in the first quarter of 2026, compared with 136 in Q1 2025. That was a weaker opening quarter year over year. Airbus Q1 2026 results

Stronger Q2 lifted the half-year total
By the end of June, Airbus had delivered 351 aircraft in 2026, ahead of 306 in the first half of 2025. The difference between the H1 total and Q1 figure implies 237 deliveries in Q2 2026. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said the company’s focus on execution was paying off, “as demonstrated by strong deliveries in Q2.” Airbus H1 2026 results release, 29 July 2026

| Family | H1 2026 deliveries |
|---|---|
| A220 | 44 |
| A320 Family | 271 |
| A330 | 10 |
| A350 | 26 |
The A320 Family accounted for most H1 deliveries, so constraints affecting its production and ramp-up matter particularly to the overall delivery trajectory.

What is putting the target at risk?
Airbus identified engine commitments from Pratt & Whitney as a constraint. At its 2026 annual press conference, the company said Pratt & Whitney had not committed to the number of engines Airbus had ordered, negatively affecting its 2026 guidance and ramp-up trajectory. Faury said the guidance reflected what Pratt & Whitney was then committed to deliver. Airbus Annual Press Conference 2026
This is a disclosed supply risk, not a quantified forecast of how many aircraft it will prevent Airbus from delivering. Airbus also described A320 panel-quality issues late in 2025 as pressure on delivery execution in that already back-loaded year; that past issue should not be treated as the explanation for every 2026 shortfall.

Production-rate plans are longer-term targets
Airbus’s stated production rates concern planned manufacturing capacity at future dates. They are not 2026 delivery totals, and production rate should not be compared directly with cumulative deliveries.
| Aircraft family | Airbus-stated production-rate plan |
|---|---|
| A320 Family | Between 70 and 75 aircraft per month by end-2027, stabilising at 75 thereafter |
| A220 | 13 per month in 2028 |
| A330 | 5 per month in 2029 |
| A350 | 12 per month in 2028 |
These milestones illustrate Airbus’s intended ramp-up, while the engine constraint highlights the difficulty of converting plans into aircraft available for delivery.

Does the backlog mean demand is the problem?
Airbus reported a commercial-aircraft backlog of 9,037 at the end of March 2026 and 9,222 at the end of June. That increase indicates a large stock of contracted orders; it is not a schedule or guarantee for when aircraft will be produced and handed over. Deliveries depend on Airbus and its suppliers executing production, as well as customer acceptance and delivery timing. Airbus H1 2026 results release
For context, Airbus delivered 793 commercial aircraft in 2025, up 4% year over year, and reported a record commercial backlog of 8,754 at year-end. The higher 2026 target therefore calls for a further increase in deliveries, not merely maintaining last year’s total. Airbus Annual Press Conference 2026

Can Airbus still reach around 870 deliveries in 2026?
It remains possible, but the August figures make the target look demanding. Airbus had four months to deliver 395 aircraft, materially above its first-eight-month average, while management had already identified engine supply commitments as a constraint. The data support concern about execution risk; they do not establish that Airbus will miss its target.
The target itself is conditional. Airbus says its guidance assumes no additional disruptions to global trade or the world economy, air traffic, the supply chain, internal operations, or its ability to deliver products and services. It includes currently applicable tariffs and is before mergers and acquisitions. Airbus 2026 guidance
Why the August cutoff matters
Airbus’s official monthly page listed August 2026 as the latest monthly report reviewed on 8 October 2026. The page also listed an October 2 announcement about KLM receiving its first A350-900, but an individual customer delivery announcement is not the September fleet-wide total. Consequently, the calculations here use the August cumulative count; they should not be read as an up-to-date September tally.
