Black Friday 2024 is over. The strongest wireless-plan offers at the time came from Freedom Mobile and Public Mobile, while Telus, Bell and Rogers led several of the most aggressive phone-financing promotions. The best choice depended on more than the advertised phone payment: plan cost, temporary credits, trade-in value, device-return obligations and coverage could change the real 24-month price substantially.
This is a historical snapshot of offers reported during Black Friday 2024, originally published November 22 and updated through November 29, 2024. Do not assume these prices are still available; check the carrier’s current offer page before signing up.

Best Black Friday 2024 wireless plans
Freedom Mobile and Public Mobile: best overall plan pricing
Freedom Mobile and Public Mobile had the strongest overall plan offers in the 2024 roundup, with matching headline tiers:

- $35 per month for 50GB.
- $45 per month for 75GB.
- $55 per month for 100GB.
They were not identical products. Freedom’s advertised pricing included a $5 monthly autopay discount and a further $5 monthly bill credit that expired after 18 months. Freedom also included varying amounts of international Roam Beyond data. Public Mobile’s higher-priced plans stood out for including 2,000 monthly long-distance minutes to several countries and territories.
Freedom was therefore particularly interesting for customers needing Canada/U.S./Mexico connectivity or selected international roaming. Public Mobile was attractive to price-sensitive BYOD customers who preferred a digital, self-serve model. Verify network coverage, roaming destinations and the post-promotion price before choosing between them.
Other notable plan offers
- Fido, Koodo and Virgin Plus: $34 per month for 60GB and $39 per month for 100GB in the reported promotions. Some offers used 4G service or had channel-specific conditions.
- Videotron: $40 per month for 100GB when bundled with home internet. Availability and eligibility were regional and bundle-dependent.
- Bell: $45 per month for 120GB, followed by reported $50 per month for 200GB and later $60 per month for 200GB offers for certain customers, particularly existing internet customers.
- Fizz: 80GB for $8 per month with the purchase of selected phones. This was not a normal standalone BYOD price because the rate was tied to a phone purchase.
- Fido: $44 per month for 80GB with international calling from Canada to several countries.
These were promotional prices from November 2024, not a current rate card. Offers could require a new activation, port-in, additional line, autopay enrollment, online ordering, an existing internet subscription or credit approval.

Best phone deals by buyer
Best iPhone deals
- Telus: iPhone 16 for $10 per month with device return; iPhone 15 for $8 per month with device return.
- Bell: iPhone 16 offers at $17 and $22 per month, both reported with device-return conditions.
- Rogers: iPhone 16 for $2 per month with a trade-in and Save & Return, reportedly available in-store.
- Rogers: iPhone 16 plus AirPods 4 for $24.46 per month with device return.
- Fido: iPhone 16 plus AirPods 4 for $40.84 per month without device return.
- Virgin Plus and Koodo: iPhone 14 for $10 per month.
The $2 Rogers payment was not automatically the cheapest iPhone ownership option: it required both a qualifying trade-in and a return-style arrangement. For a customer who planned to keep the phone for several years, an iPhone 15 or iPhone 14 with a lower-cost BYOD plan could have produced better total value.
Best Android deals
- Galaxy S24: $5 per month at Telus with device return, and $10 per month at Freedom, Videotron and Bell with device return.
- Pixel 9: $0 per month at most carriers when the phone was returned after two years.
- Motorola Edge (2024): $5 per month at Fido, Telus and Koodo.
- Motorola Razr+ (2024): $20 per month through Freedom.
- Galaxy S24 and Watch 7: $14.50 per month at Telus with device return.
A $0 monthly phone can mean that the carrier is deferring a substantial amount until the end of the term. Before accepting one, find the exact return balance, damage rules and amount required to keep the phone.
Best deals for frequent upgraders
Rogers Save & Return, Telus Bring-It-Back and Freedom TradeUp were designed for customers who expected to replace their phone after roughly two years. They can reduce monthly payments, but the phone normally must be returned in acceptable condition or the deferred balance must be paid.

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).

Best for long-term phone owners
Customers who keep phones beyond the financing term should generally favour standard financing with no return obligation, BYOD or buying a device outright. A return program is not a discount on ownership unless you actually return the device and accept not keeping it.
Best deal by customer type
- Lowest-cost BYOD: Freedom Mobile or Public Mobile, subject to coverage and feature differences.
- Heavy-data user: Compare the $100GB offers from Freedom, Public Mobile, Fido, Koodo, Virgin Plus and Videotron, including bundle requirements and network type.
- Canada/U.S./Mexico traveller: Freedom and Public Mobile had particularly relevant plan options, but confirm the exact roaming allowance and destinations.
- Family or bundle customer: Bell and Videotron could make sense where home-internet or multi-line eligibility reduced the combined price.
- Frequent upgrader: Consider Save & Return, Bring-It-Back or TradeUp only if you expect to return the phone.
- Regional customer: Check SaskTel, Eastlink, Videotron, Fizz and Freedom availability in your province and at your usual locations.
What “free” and “$0 per month” really meant
Every advertised phone payment should be checked against these conditions:
- The required monthly plan and whether a cheaper comparable BYOD plan exists.
- The financing term, usually two years.
- Whether a trade-in is required and whether its value is issued as bill credits.
- The deferred amount payable if you keep the phone.
- Damage, water, activation-lock and power-on requirements for returning it.
- Credit approval, activation fees, taxes and provincial 9-1-1 charges.
- What happens to credits and device balances if you cancel or change plans early.
A $25 monthly difference between a device-required plan and a comparable BYOD plan becomes $600 over 24 months before taxes. That can outweigh an apparently free phone.

How to calculate the real 24-month cost
Use both an ownership scenario and a return scenario:
24-month total = (plan price × 24)
+ (device payment × 24)
+ activation or connection fees
+ required add-ons
+ taxes
− promotional credits
− confirmed trade-in value
+ final return/buyout balance, if keeping the phone
For a fair comparison, calculate:
- Return at month 24: include the payments and credits, then confirm the phone satisfies the return rules.
- Keep the phone: add the deferred balance or buyout amount.
- BYOD: keep the existing phone and compare the cheaper plan over the same 24 months.
Temporary discounts deserve special attention. Freedom’s reported $5 monthly bill credit expired after 18 months, so the final six months were not equivalent to the first 18. Also separate full-speed data from reduced-speed data, hotspot limits, video restrictions and roaming caps.

Internet bundle pricing should be compared with the standalone mobile price after every credit expires. A bundle is only cheaper if you would otherwise buy both services and the required service remains competitive after the introductory period.
A dated charitable promotion
On November 28, 2024, Telus announced a “buy one, give one” promotion stating that it would provide a free plan and phone to a Canadian in need for each new phone purchased over the Black Friday weekend. This was a dated charitable promotion, not a general reduction in the customer’s phone price.
Bottom line
For wireless plans, Freedom Mobile and Public Mobile were the clearest Black Friday 2024 standouts. For phones, Telus, Bell and Rogers had some of the lowest advertised payments, but the winner depended on return terms, trade-ins and the required plan. The most financially defensible choice for many shoppers was to compare a lower-cost BYOD plan against the full 24-month cost of financing before treating any “free” phone as a bargain.
