Among the schools in the documented comparison, Aiglon College has the highest verified headline fee for 2026/27: CHF 168,000 for boarding in Years 12–13, including VAT. Count compulsory extras and the comparison’s leader changes to Collège Alpin Beau Soleil, whose Grade 11 total is CHF 183,390. These are not tuition-only prices, and the comparison is not a census of every private school worldwide.
How the ranking works
School fees are not directly comparable unless the school year, grade, boarding arrangement and included charges match. A headline figure may cover tuition and boarding but exclude required charges; another may include those charges or apply VAT differently. The table therefore labels the reported basis rather than treating every amount as the same kind of price.
The ranking draws on school schedules and a Swiss Private Education comparison updated 23 September 2026. Its documented figures support a comparison led by Swiss boarding schools, not a definitive worldwide ranking across every country and type of private school.

Why the top-ranked school depends on what you count
Highest verified headline fee: Aiglon College
Aiglon’s CHF 168,000 applies to boarding in Years 12–13 for 2026/27 and includes VAT. It is the highest headline amount verified in the examined comparison. It should not be described as a universal worldwide record: the comparison’s coverage is limited, and a headline fee does not necessarily include every required cost.
Highest total with compulsory extras: Beau Soleil
For Grade 11 in 2026/27, Beau Soleil’s comparison total is CHF 183,390 when CHF 34,950 in required charges is added to CHF 148,440 for tuition and boarding. That makes it the costliest entry on this included-cost basis, even though its headline tuition-and-boarding amount is below Aiglon’s. Do not compare the two totals as if they cover identical charges.

Why Le Rosey is often called the world’s most expensive school
Guinness World Records currently labels Institut Le Rosey the record holder for “most expensive school (annual fees)” and displays CHF 115,500, describing tuition, room and board while listing some extras separately. That record-page amount is not Le Rosey’s current 2026/27 schedule: the school’s own financial conditions list CHF 159,600 for tuition and boarding, plus a one-time CHF 3,000 registration fee. Swiss Private Education reports CHF 164,400 for 2027/28, a separate academic year. The Guinness page is useful context for the record claim, not a current-fee ranking. Guinness World Records

What families should check before comparing costs
- Match the academic year. A fee for 2026/27 cannot be ranked directly against a different year’s schedule without labeling the difference.
- Compare the same grade or year group. Fees may vary by age or grade, as Beau Soleil’s listed amounts illustrate.
- Confirm boarding and tuition are both included. A boarding fee and a day-school tuition figure describe different services.
- Separate required charges from optional costs. Add compulsory charges when calculating a likely annual total; keep optional trips or activities separate unless the school makes them mandatory.
- Check tax treatment and one-time fees. Aiglon’s cited amount includes VAT; Le Rosey lists a separate one-time registration fee.
- Use the school’s current schedule for a decision. These figures are published for specific school years and can change annually.
