The ranking below covers reported auction sales through the 2026 Monterey Car Week cutoff; prices are U.S. dollars at the time of sale and include buyer’s premium, except where the original currency is also shown. Private transactions are excluded, so this is a public-auction ranking—not a complete record of every Porsche sale.
The 10 most expensive Porsches sold at public auction
Rankings and prices follow Modern Car Collector’s reported list through the 2026 Monterey Car Week cutoff. The 550 RS Spyder’s dollar equivalent is the ranking source’s approximate conversion at the time of sale, not a current exchange-rate calculation.

Why these Porsches reached such high prices
The ranking spans purpose-built race cars and road-going supercars, so there is no single feature that explains every result. The cars’ documented competition histories, exact chassis identities, rarity, preservation, mileage, factory specification, and provenance can all matter to collectors. Those are contextual factors, not proof that any one attribute caused a particular price.

Competition history and significance
The 917K’s connection to Le Mans and Porsche’s first overall Le Mans victory in 1970 gives its history unusual resonance. The Porsche Newsroom has tied chassis 917-024 to the film, though its historical feature is not a current price ranking. The 956 and 917/10 Spyder also represent competition-focused cars, while the 911 GT1 Rennversion reflects Porsche’s racing program.
Rarity and provenance
A rare variant, identifiable chassis, or well-documented history can distinguish one car from another with the same model name. In a 2017 release, Gooding & Company President David Gooding described demand for “cars that combine all the attributes of rarity, performance, historical significance and provenance.” That is a market observation, not a formula for predicting a sale price.

Condition, mileage, and specification
Condition and originality, mileage, and unusual factory specification can help shape comparisons between examples. The 845-mile figure reported for the 918 Spyder Weissach is one example of a detail that matters when assessing a specific listing; it should not be treated as a universal value premium.

How to read the ranking and compare prices
- It measures reported auction outcomes. The list excludes private transactions, which are not publicly reported on the same basis, and does not describe typical Porsche values.
- Buyer’s premium affects the total. The ranking says its prices include buyer’s premium. Broad Arrow likewise specifies that its 2026 Carrera GT figure includes the premium.
- Currency matters. The 550 Spyder result is stated in pounds, with the source’s approximate contemporaneous U.S.-dollar conversion alongside it.
- Variant and history matter. Compare the exact model and chassis, sale date and auction house, provenance, competition history, condition or originality, mileage, and whether the car was built for road or race use.
- The cutoff matters. A later reported auction sale could change the order. Treat “record” claims as public-auction records through the stated date, not claims about undisclosed private sales.
