Krispy Kreme’s “$2 billion” figure is annual global systemwide sales for fiscal year 2025—not $2 billion in company revenue or profit. Its business grew from a hot-doughnut shop into a network of shops, production hubs, retail delivery points, franchise partners and digital ordering. Coffee is part of its product range, but the available figures do not show how much coffee contributes to sales.
How Krispy Kreme began with hot doughnuts
Krispy Kreme Investor Relations dates founder Vernon Rudolph’s first doughnut sales to July 13, 1937. In the company’s account, people passing the bakery smelled the doughnuts and asked to buy them. Rudolph cut an opening in the exterior wall and sold the hot doughnuts from the sidewalk. The first shop was in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, according to the company’s July 14, 2026 anniversary release.
That origin story points to an enduring part of the brand: the appeal of a freshly made Original Glazed doughnut, signaled by the Hot Light. It is a vivid explanation of how the first shop attracted customers, not by itself an explanation for the company’s later scale.
How the business reached beyond its own shops
Krispy Kreme describes its business as a network of fresh doughnut shops, retail partnerships and digital sales. A customer can buy in a shop, order through the company’s app or website for pickup or delivery, or find doughnuts at select retailers. The network lets the company sell beyond the doors of its traditional storefronts.

Shops, hubs and points of access
A “point of access” does not necessarily mean a Krispy Kreme shop. The company’s Q2 2026 results describe access points that include Hot Light Theater Shops, Fresh Shops, carts and food trucks, as well as fresh delivery doors such as retail cabinets and merchandising units. Hubs make doughnuts and supply those points. This model can put fresh products closer to customers without requiring every location to operate as a full production shop.
At fiscal year-end 2025, Krispy Kreme reported operations in 42 countries, 1.6 billion doughnuts sold annually and more than 15,000 global points of access. These are company-reported scale figures; the point count includes more than conventional shops.

Why the network can shrink as well as grow
Distribution partnerships can extend reach, but they can also end. For the quarter ended June 28, 2026, Krispy Kreme reported 15,665 global points of access, down 13.5% year over year. The company said the reduction partly reflected closing approximately 2,400 McDonald’s USA fresh delivery doors after ending that partnership. Its Q2 2026 release also discussed continued refranchising and operational changes, so the footprint should be understood as a changing network rather than a one-way expansion story.
What Krispy Kreme’s “$2 billion” means
The headline figure is systemwide sales: the company’s measure of product sales at company and franchise locations. It includes sales made by franchisees, which are not Krispy Kreme’s own revenue. The company excludes mix, equipment and royalty revenue from its systemwide-sales measure. Net revenue, by contrast, is the revenue reported by Krispy Kreme itself.

| Measure | Period | Company-reported figure | What it describes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual global systemwide sales | Fiscal year-end 2025 | $2.0 billion | Product sales through company and franchise locations; not company revenue. |
| Net revenue | Q2 2026 | $331.0 million | Revenue reported by Krispy Kreme for the quarter. |
| Systemwide sales | Q2 2026 | $497.3 million | Product sales across company and franchise locations for the quarter. |
The Q2 figures are for one quarter, while the $2.0 billion figure covers fiscal year 2025. They are different periods and different measures, so they should not be treated as competing annual totals. None of these figures, on its own, tells a reader how much profit Krispy Kreme earned.
Where coffee fits into the story
Krispy Kreme sells coffee as well as doughnuts. A September 23, 2026 company announcement offered a limited-time example of the pairing: an Original Glazed Coffee Flavored Doughnut and a coffee promotion. That illustrates how the brand can use familiar products together, but the announcement does not establish coffee’s share of revenue or show that coffee drove the company’s reported systemwide sales.

What the company says to expect next
On August 6, 2026, Krispy Kreme maintained its 2026 guidance of $1.25–$1.35 billion in net revenue and 2–4% systemwide-sales growth in constant currency. Those figures are forecasts, not completed results. The revenue range is the company’s own expected revenue; the growth rate refers to systemwide sales and is adjusted for currency.
The evidence supports a story of a distinctive fresh doughnut, multiple ways to reach customers and a system that includes both company and franchise locations. It does not support describing $2 billion as Krispy Kreme’s revenue, treating systemwide sales as profit, or attributing that scale to coffee alone.
