Prime Day 2026 ended on June 26. That means prices from the sale—including MacBook Air models around $949, Surface Laptop configurations around $835, and other deals advertised during the event—are historical unless a retailer independently confirms the same offer today. The safest buying strategy is to compare the exact configuration, seller, warranty, and recent street price rather than trust an old “Prime Day” headline.
This guide separates historical Prime Day pricing from post-sale buying advice, explains which laptop type fits each use case, and shows how to evaluate any deal before checkout.
What happened to the “40+ lingering Prime Day deals”?
Amazon’s 2026 Prime Day ran from June 23 through June 26 and ended at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on June 26. Amazon also warned that prices and availability could change. Therefore, an article presenting Prime Day as an ongoing event—or claiming that 40 or more offers remain live—would be misleading without retailer-level checks.
The original deal roundup is best treated as a historical reference. Search results showed examples including an Asus Vivobook Go at $330, a Lenovo Yoga 7 at $980, and a Microsoft Surface Pro at $700, but those prices should not be assumed to remain available. The same applies to any deal described as a Prime Day offer unless its exact configuration and checkout price are currently confirmed.

Historical prices worth remembering
These prices describe the June 2026 sale, not guaranteed prices today:
- 13-inch MacBook Air, 512GB: $949, down from $1,099.
- 13-inch MacBook Air, 16GB/1TB: $1,149, down from $1,299.
- 15-inch MacBook Air, 512GB: $1,149, down from $1,299.
- 15-inch MacBook Air, 16GB/1TB: $1,349, down from $1,499.
- Surface Laptop, 13.8-inch configuration: approximately $835, with 256GB storage.
MacRumors reported the MacBook prices, while Wired reported the Surface Laptop pricing and trade-offs. Wired specifically noted that the unusually low Surface price came with limited 256GB storage. Treat these figures as useful price targets, not current offers.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
Wired also reported that Apple’s current MacBook pricing had risen in June 2026 and described the M5 MacBook Air as starting at $1,299 after the increase. When calculating savings, distinguish between Apple’s current list price, a prior street price, and a retailer’s claimed “was” price.

| Buyer | Best starting point | Why | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most macOS buyers | MacBook Air | Quiet, portable, efficient, and well integrated with Apple devices | No touchscreen and limited gaming compatibility |
| Windows alternative to a MacBook Air | Surface Laptop | Premium design, touchscreen, Windows software, and a taller 3:2 display | Low-priced versions may have only 256GB storage; ARM models require compatibility checks |
| Basic school or browser work | Chromebook or entry-level Windows laptop | Lower purchase cost and sufficient performance for web apps and documents | Weak fit for desktop software, advanced editing, and demanding games |
| Student or office work | 16GB/512GB mainstream laptop | More comfortable multitasking and better long-term headroom | Usually costs more than headline budget configurations |
| Creative work | MacBook Pro or stronger Windows laptop | Better sustained performance, memory, display, and graphics options | Often unnecessary for ordinary school or office work |
| Gaming | Windows gaming laptop with a dedicated GPU | Broad game compatibility and substantially stronger graphics performance | Heavier, louder, and less effective on battery |
| Tablet/laptop flexibility | Surface Pro or another 2-in-1 | Detachable or convertible design and touch input | Keyboard and stylus may cost extra |
MacBook Air versus Surface Laptop
Choose the MacBook Air if you already use an iPhone or iPad, prefer macOS, want a conventional laptop without a touchscreen, or depend on Apple services. Check Windows-only applications before switching. MacBooks are generally configured with fixed memory and storage, so choose enough at purchase.
Choose the Surface Laptop if you want Windows, Microsoft 365, Xbox and PC software compatibility, a touchscreen, or a taller 3:2 display. Surface Laptop models using Qualcomm Snapdragon processors may offer strong efficiency, but buyers must check support for older applications, VPN clients, peripherals, professional software, games, and anti-cheat systems.

Specifications that matter more than the discount
Memory
- 8GB: Suitable only for very light use and an exceptionally low price.
- 16GB: The practical baseline for most new general-purpose laptops in 2026.
- 24GB or more: Better for development, virtual machines, engineering, demanding creative work, and some AI workloads.
Storage
- 256GB: Usable for cloud-first buyers, but restrictive for games, video, photos, and large applications.
- 512GB: The preferred baseline for most buyers.
- 1TB: Appropriate for creative work, large local libraries, or long ownership.
A large percentage discount on an 8GB/128GB or 8GB/256GB laptop can be worse value than a smaller discount on a 16GB/512GB model. Also check whether the memory is soldered, because a laptop that cannot be upgraded gives you no way to fix an underspecified purchase later.
Other details to check
Before buying, verify the processor generation, screen size and resolution, refresh rate, touch support, weight, ports, webcam, operating-system edition, warranty, and whether the machine uses an ARM processor. Treat battery-life figures as manufacturer claims unless they are clearly identified as independent test results.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Surface models can be attractive for efficiency and battery life, but Windows on ARM is not automatically identical to x86 Windows for every workload. Some applications run through emulation, and specific drivers, VPN clients, peripherals, games, anti-cheat systems, enterprise tools, and professional applications may not work correctly.

- Check each developer’s support page for Windows ARM support.
- Confirm compatibility for printers, scanners, docks, security software, and specialist hardware.
- Check the requirements for any games that use anti-cheat software.

Surface Pro pricing requires an accessory calculation
A Surface Pro price may cover only the tablet-like computer. Add the cost of a keyboard cover and, if needed, a stylus before comparing it with a complete MacBook or conventional Windows laptop. Microsoft’s Surface deals page listed promotions running through August 31, 2026, while supplies lasted, and a separate trade-in promotion running August 3 through September 30, 2026. Trade-in value depends on an eligible, functioning device and inspection conditions; it is not an automatic discount.

- Record the exact model and configuration. Confirm the processor, memory, storage, display, color, and operating system.
- Compare the recent street price. Do not rely only on MSRP or a retailer’s “was” price.
- Identify the seller. On Amazon and marketplace sites, distinguish the retailer itself from a third-party seller.
- Check the condition. Confirm whether the laptop is new, refurbished, renewed, open-box, or imported.
- Read warranty and returns. Look for manufacturer coverage, marketplace exclusions, restocking fees, final-sale language, and battery terms for used products.
- Check discount mechanics. Determine whether the price requires Prime, a clipped coupon, student status, trade-in, financing, or checkout activation.
- Calculate the complete cost. Include a Surface keyboard or pen, a dock, adapters, Microsoft 365, storage, and required accessories.
- Recheck at checkout. Confirm that the price, seller, stock status, and configuration have not changed.
Amazon Prime membership was reported at $14.99 per month or $139 per year in the United States, with a 30-day trial for eligible new members; MacRumors also reported a $69 annual Young Adult plan for eligible users ages 18–24. When a cheap laptop is not a good deal
- The headline price applies only to a sold-out color or a lower-storage configuration.
- The laptop has 8GB of memory or 128GB of storage with no upgrade path.
- The “discount” is measured against an inflated reference price rather than the recent market price.
- The seller is a marketplace merchant with unclear returns or warranty coverage.
- The item is renewed or refurbished but the listing does not explain condition or battery expectations.
- A Surface Pro listing excludes the keyboard required for laptop-style use.
- An ARM Windows system has not been checked against your software and peripherals.
- The product is old enough that its lower price reflects an outgoing platform rather than exceptional value.
- The deal depends on financing, trade-in credit, or an education-only promotion that does not apply to you.
Where to compare current prices
Use the manufacturer pages for configuration and warranty details, then compare the final price with major retailers:
- Apple Mac buying page
- Microsoft Surface buying page
- Amazon laptops
- Best Buy laptops
- Walmart laptops
- Dell laptops
- HP laptops
- Lenovo laptops
Post-sale discounts rotate across these retailers. If a current offer does not meet the 16GB/512GB baseline, has unclear seller information, or is only marginally below its normal street price, waiting for another promotion is often better than buying a weak configuration to capture a large percentage discount.
