Ryan Kaji became a millionaire as a child, but there is no public, audited figure for his personal net worth. His family turned toy-review videos into a children’s entertainment business spanning YouTube, licensed products, television, games and film. Forbes’ earnings estimates and reported retail sales show the scale of that business; neither, on its own, reveals how much Ryan owns today.
Who is Ryan Kaji?
Ryan Kaji is the child creator at the center of Ryan’s World, the brand that grew out of his original channel, Ryan ToysReview. He began appearing in toy videos after asking his parents why he was not on YouTube like other children. What started as toy reviews and unboxing videos expanded into educational and family content, animated characters, games, television and film. Forbes recounted the early story and the brand’s later expansion in its 2024 account of Ryan’s World.

How did toy videos grow into a major brand?
A viral start and rapid audience growth
The early videos put toys at the center of a format aimed at young viewers. One standout was “Giant Lightning McQueen Egg Surprise,” which Forbes reported had reached roughly 1.1 billion views by 2024. Forbes also reported that the channel had about 1 million subscribers by 2016, more than 5 million by 2017, and 37.4 million in 2024. These figures describe different points in the channel’s growth, not its current audience. In 2016, Ryan’s parents left their previous careers to run the operation full time, according to Forbes.

A family-run production company
The business was no longer just a child and a camera. The family founded Sunlight Entertainment in 2017 as the production company behind Ryan’s World. Its official description says it manages eight YouTube channels, employs a 30-person team and releases about 25 videos a week. Forbes described a broader operation of 30–40 full-time employees in 2024. Those descriptions make Ryan’s World look more like a staffed children’s media studio than a solo creator account; they do not disclose the company’s ownership percentages or Ryan’s personal share.

How much money did Ryan earn?
Forbes has published estimates of Ryan’s earnings during particular periods. Earnings are a flow over time, not a statement of assets minus debts. The figures below should not be read as Ryan’s net worth or added together as if they were a running account balance.

Forbes’ 2020 figures are estimates rather than audited accounts. Even a credible estimate of money generated in a period cannot tell readers what remained after production costs, taxes, fees, business expenses or contractual splits.
Why merchandise and licensing mattered more than ad revenue alone
YouTube helped Ryan’s World build an audience, but advertising on videos is only one possible source of income. Licensing let manufacturers and retail partners put the brand on products, while television and other media extended it beyond the platform. Bloomberg reported that Ryan-branded products generated more than $250 million in sales in 2020, citing Pocket.watch executive Chris Williams. Forbes separately reported more than $200 million in annual retail sales from roughly 5,000 Ryan-themed products in its 2020 coverage. These are differently scoped reported sales figures, not amounts paid directly to Ryan, and should not be added together. See Bloomberg’s merchandise reporting and Forbes’ 2020 profile.
By 2024, Forbes reported that the family’s Walmart product line had generated more than $1 billion in cumulative retail sales since its 2018 launch. That is the value of products sold at retail, not Ryan’s personal earnings, the family’s profit or a valuation of the brand. A retail sale is divided across the commercial chain: the retailer, manufacturer, distributor, licensee and other partners may all have costs or contractual shares before any creator payment. The figure and its scope are reported in Forbes’ 2024 account.
How did the business expand beyond YouTube?
Ryan’s World extended its characters and audience into consumer products and longer-form entertainment. The expansion included television programs such as Ryan’s Mystery Playdate, streaming distribution, games, animated and live-action productions, and a feature film that opened in more than 2,100 theaters in 2024, according to Forbes. The wider portfolio can reduce reliance on any one platform, but production and distribution also involve partners, costs and commercial arrangements not visible in public earnings rankings.
What changed when YouTube tightened rules for children’s content?
Children’s videos face a different advertising and privacy environment from general-audience content. In 2019, YouTube and Google agreed to pay $170 million to settle allegations brought by the Federal Trade Commission and New York’s attorney general over children’s data and COPPA. The settlement was with Google/YouTube; it does not establish that Ryan or his family was found personally liable. TIME’s coverage describes the settlement and Ryan’s business context.
YouTube later required creators to identify whether content was made for children and limited personalized advertising on children’s content. Forbes reported that child-directed advertising rates were significantly lower than rates for leading adult programming. Those rules and lower ad rates help explain why licensing and merchandise were important parts of Ryan’s World’s business model, rather than proving any particular revenue split. The ad-rate comparison and business context were reported by Forbes.
There is also an ethical question when entertainment for preschool-age viewers includes commercial relationships: young children may not readily distinguish a story or toy demonstration from advertising. Advocacy and media criticism have raised concerns about disclosure, privacy and the pressures of making a child part of a commercial operation. Such criticism is not, by itself, a legal finding against Ryan’s family. The Guardian’s 2020 reporting discusses the child-influencer debate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does Ryan Kaji have a verified net worth?
No public source cited here establishes an exact, audited figure for Ryan’s personal net worth. Net worth means assets minus liabilities. To calculate it, someone would need reliable information about assets, debts, taxes, expenses, ownership stakes, trusts and contractual rights—details that are not public. A celebrity-estimate site may publish a precise number, but precision is not proof that the publisher has access to those private records.
The family has said that a substantial portion of YouTube and product revenue was invested under Ryan’s name; reporting also says television earnings went into a trust. That is meaningful context, but it does not establish the complete balance, legal structure or share of the wider business that belongs to Ryan. See Forbes’ reporting on the family’s business and TIME’s reporting on the trust.
- High confidence: Forbes estimated millions of dollars in Ryan’s earnings during specific periods, and family statements reported by Forbes support that he was a millionaire as a child.
- High confidence: Ryan’s World products generated very large reported retail sales; the Walmart-line figure is cumulative retail sales, not Ryan’s personal income.
- Not publicly established: Ryan’s precise current net worth, the family’s complete ownership structure and the balance of any trust.
What does Ryan’s World look like now?
The “10-year-old millionaire” label describes an earlier stage of Ryan’s life, not his current age. Ryan’s official site now describes him as a teenager. The franchise has a production company, multiple channels and products beyond its original toy-review format, but public reporting does not establish how Ryan’s on-camera role or the business will change as he grows up. For current biographical context, see the official Ryan’s World about page.
