On September 21, 2024, members of IAM District 70, Local Lodge 774, rejected Textron Aviation’s final contract offer and voted to strike. Contemporary reporting said the strike was scheduled to begin September 23, after the existing agreement expired at midnight on September 22. The vote did not establish how long a strike would last or what terms workers ultimately secured.
What happened in the Textron Aviation contract vote?
The rejected offer was the company’s September 18, 2024, final proposal for a four-year labor agreement. Simple Flying reported that more than 80% of union members voted to strike; a KSN item reproduced in a Kentucky State AFL-CIO roundup gave the figure as 81%. The bargaining unit was described as about 5,000 hourly workers in Wichita by Aviation Week, also reproduced in the roundup. Simple Flying characterized more than 5,000 employees as set to strike.
Those reports describe the vote and planned start at the time. They do not establish the strike’s actual duration, the date or terms of a later settlement, or whether a subsequent agreement was ratified.
What did the rejected offer propose?
According to Simple Flying’s September 23, 2024 report, Textron Aviation’s proposal included staged general wage increases totaling 26% over four years, in addition to a 4% general increase added in 2022. All figures below refer to the rejected offer, not necessarily to workers’ current pay or benefits.

These were proposed terms reported by the outlet, not proof that the union accepted them or that they took effect. The available reporting does not provide a detailed union counterproposal or a side-by-side estimate of the offer’s total value to employees.
Why did union members reject the offer?
Simple Flying reported that some workers believed the wage proposal did not adequately address inflation and rising living costs. The report also described concerns about health insurance and child-support offerings. Those accounts are not a member survey or a complete explanation of every voter’s decision.

In its public statement, IAM Local 774 said members were seeking improved pay rates, healthcare, and job security, and that they wanted to return to negotiations for an equitable agreement. The statement did not provide a quantified wage target or a complete list of proposed changes.
What did Textron Aviation and the union say?
Textron Aviation said it had made every effort to avoid a strike and had prepared to continue operating for customers if one occurred. It also said it remained committed to working with the IAM on a contract recognizing employees’ contributions and supporting long-term success. The union said it wanted to resume talks with company leadership; the September 23 report said no new negotiation date had been set at publication.

What is known about the outcome?
The reported vote set a planned strike start for September 23, 2024, but the contemporaneous reports cited here do not establish whether the strike began as scheduled, how long it lasted, or what agreement—if any—was later reached. The proposal’s scheduled increases for 2025, 2026, and 2027 should not be treated as current compensation without later confirmation.
